actually... i had to go home and get the spare KEY.... my alarm armed automatically with all my stuff inside and the lights on.... so i was locked out of my truck for the millionth time.... i had to leave my wonderful friends in the middle of nowhere to watch over the runner, armed with my friend's liftjack handle (metal pole) as a weapon against mountain lions (we parked right in front of a "beware mountain lions" sign) hahaha... everything turned out well... got everyone home safe.... and i got AAA spare keys made for all my friends in case that happens again.... hahaha

yeah im in chino hills closer to diamond bar.... a friend of mine lives pretty close to the Chino Hills entrance of Carbon Canyon State Park... we were bored one day... decided to take a couple friends and check it out before it closed.....

do you know of any other trails we could check out ?

I know some people in DB, too, but I won't start naming them...it would probably be a long shot if you knew 'em, anyway.

Sorry...I've only seen the urban areas of Riverside, so I couldn't tell you about any trails around here. ...but I'll let you know if I hear something.

When I bought mine, they made a thin plastic key that's like in the middle of a credit card sized piece of plastic. It only opens the door.

Great site for off-road. I love idea of driving my 4Runner on the trail which surrounded by beautiful hills or mountains view.


BTW, One time, I forgot my key inside my lunch bag which my sister took it home. I had the plastic key to open the door but I couldn't start the engine. Therefore, my sister had to come back and give me the key. The plastic key is more pratical when you are locked outside and your key is inside the suv. I wonder have anyone here ever hide your spare key somewhere inside your suv? There are always some advantages and disadvantages by doing so. And don't tell where you may hide your spare key on the web cause it is only good for theft

Oh. I misunderstood you. I thought you meant spare tire because in the last picture, your runner looked like it was at an angle. Anyway, they are both just as aggravating.

Yup, that plastic key can only open the doors and nothing else. I haven't tried it on the glove box. You can't start the car with it because it doesn't have the chip in the key. I wouldn't even want to try of fear of breaking the plastic key in the ignition

I don't hide any spare keys on the vehicle's interior/exterior. I just keep the plastic key in my wallet. I've heard of people buying a magnetic box to keep thier key under thier cars in case they lock themselves out. Too me it's not worth it.

that key they are refering to is like a credit card, with a one use fold out plastic key. You can get it at most key shops. They make them right there. I actually used mine 3 times now on my older 4Runner. Works great, keep it on you.

hide-a-key

Here's my system for getting back in to my T4R, (and driving home).

I got a blank key (no chip) made, which I have hidden on the exterior of the car. I then hid one of the original Black keys inside the car. I use the other (Black) key daily, have the Gray rubber (vallet) key as a back up.

This way if I totally lose a my primary key when out and about, (or lock it inside) I can still get in and drive home.

While at the same time if a bad guy were to find my hide-a-key they would only be able to get in, but not drive away.

And since you need one of the Black keys to program new Master keys, I will always have one hidden in the rig. It is not such a big deal if you loose the Gray Valley key.
