I'm selling my BMW to buy a T4R; getting back into the construction industry, so need a SUV.

Currently, I'm looking at the following vehicles:

2006 Limited V8 w/ 68K miles
2006 Limited V6 w/ 46K miles

Prices are the same for both. Which one? Big dilemma... Shall I get the V8 for more power and torque, but higher mileage? Or, V6 with less mileage? If I get the V6, I was thinking about installing TRD cold air intake and free flow exhaust to compensate for the less power and torque...

If it was up to me I would get the v6, but if you plan to tow then the v8 might make more sense. Not that the v6 is not capable but it would have to work harder.
 
id take the v6 less mileage. plus im a six cylinder fan! but then again my v6 is pretty noisy, from what i hear the v8 are much more quiet. BTW the v6 gets better mileage...i think you just got it backwards. (im getting 20mpg)
 
I will tell you this I have been really surprised by the toyota V6. I have had honda and Chevy V6's and driven Nissan's and this one blows them away. Plus you can't beat the decent gas mileage it gets. Good luck on your purchase and either way I don't think you will be dissapointed.
 
After owning both...I love the v8. The power and sound is sexy! Plus the all-time 4wd is great in the northwest rain. '06 still gets you the better tranny for the v6 though, so I would look at other options/color to help in your decision as well. I'm sure you would be happy with either, welcome to the T4R family...
 
Go for the eight... you will kick yourself later if you dont .. and gas milage is not that far apart... maybe 3-4 mpg more... consider color options and the like.. ultimately its down to your preferance as to what you want... the milage ..dont even put that into consideration ... both of the rigs will run you into the dirt before they fail...
 
If you are getting into construction you may want to consider more power with the V-8 in case you hook up a work trailer, carry heavy load of tools, etc... But if that is not going to be the case, I would choose the V-6 since it has less miles, and will still be sufficient for your needs. But all depends on the other variables and options - 4wd, color, condition, etc...
 
drive both, the v6 is great, the v8 is very smooth, mpg are not that much different depending on how you drive. all i know is , i drove both , & was sold on the v8.

Although I personally have the V6 and love it (people say it sounds like a drag car with the cold air intake):naughty:, I think silver is a much better look but the big thing you might want to think about. Would you want all time 4WD or would you want to be able to drive 2WD. That being because the V8 is All-Time 4WD but you can but the V6 into 2WD.
 
I love my 6. I have no need for an 8. It sounds like you want the 8, just cause you said it has more power and torque, but you didn't list any qualities about the 6 that you like. If gas mileage isn't a factor for you, than the 8 sounds like an ok deal. But 3-4mpg difference, over a 23 gallon tank, starts to make a big difference on the wallet.

Did that cold intake cause any emission issues? Did you notice any increase in power and torque?
 
I have the K&N cold air intake and it can with a California spec emittions test approved sticker and to answer the power question it feels like it definitely added power and my freinds V8 have to work to keep up
