Hey All,
I just purchased a 91 SR5 4WD auto with 143K miles for $1,500. Body is decent. Interior good shape but I believe the head gasket is shot. I checked to see that he recall was done about 10 years ago.
The truck runs smooth and Idles great however white smoke comes out of the tailpipe for about 3 minutes when you start it. Sometimes takes a few tries to start. Pretty heavy smoke which draws attention. Then it stops smoking. The car is not overheating but I noticed the coolant reservoir is low and I smell burning coolant when driving. (will add coolant today)The truck runs nicely for its age. And all power locks, windows, sunroof, etc work!
I have always wanted and older Runner to drive on the beach out here in Long island. I am an avid surf fisherman.
Its looking like a head gasket job will be MINIMUM $1K. I wanted to get any of your thoughts. Thanks!!!
