Newbie with some questions

Hello All,

I'm Ben, a newbie here, with some questions before I jump the gun on a 3rd gen. The 3rd gen I'm looking at is a 98 model, 5 speed, 2.7 4-cyl with 200k miles. I think it's a perfect A-B car for me as I do a mixture of local and long drives almost on a daily basis and the extra trunk space is definitely a plus. I'm trying to keep the miles on my other cars as low as possible.

Thank you in advance for your answers and opinions!

My questions are...

-What are the major repairs that may come up (if any)? I know Toyotas are pretty much problem free as I'm a Lexus driver myself.

-MPG... How much should I be expecting? I never had any experience with any 4 cylinder 5 spd SUV.

-Lastly, are there any particular part or thing that I should pay attention to upon inspecting the car aside from the norm?

I believe what ripcord is saying is check the stickied thread at the top of the page called the 3rd Gen buyers guide. Read it. Read it again. And read it a third time. If you have any other questions report back to here. Its s great thread but nobody that it applies to ever seems to read it.

All good man. I actually thought the smiley was hilarious.

I haven't had an SUV since I had my Range Rover and FX35 and I really do miss sitting up high. Luxury sedans are great but there's nothing like SUVs.

Its cool that its a manual, but honestly I wouldnt get it with the 4 cylinder. My truck has to go into 3rd gear on the highways here in WI to get up some the hills. Get the 3.4. Gas mileage isnt that different and the extra power is very necessary

Thanks for the input! I was honestly torn between 4 & 6 cyl. I'm actually test driving a 4 cyl tomorrow. I'll look for a 5spd-6 and give it a test so I can compare. I really appreciate the input since I do a lot of driving through the Hollywood & Mulholland Hills here in LA. :thumb3:
