newspaper is amazing

i didnt believe it when i first heard about it, but newspaper does a really good job at cleaning windows. from now on, its just newspaper and water to clean the windows . i wonder if itll work on the instrument panels...

I DEFINITLY would not use it on the instrument panel. It scratches very easily.

I don't use newspaper but it does work good. My auto mechanics vo-tech teacher taught me this trick in '84. He was way old school but had a lot of good tips and tricks.

The only thing I don't like about using newspaper is that the ink is water based. It comes off as you use it, off on the glass and on your hands. Granted you can wash your hands, but sometimes you have to clean the glass again.

That's been my experience too. I tried this ones a few years back and it just made a inky smeary mess on the window. It was otherwise quite clean.

Go down to your city newspaper's printing plant. They will be more than happy to give you end rolls that they'll have just lying around...Nice clean newsprint paper for free!

Don't use newspaper on the headlights, either. For some reason, they seem to scratch easily on the 4Runner, too. Instead I use paper towel or a microfiber cloth.

All IP (instrument panel) readouts are plastic not glass! They will scratch, fade and yellow if you use abrasives like newspaper.

There are 10 pieces of glass on the entire truck. Everything else should be cleaned with a cloth.

Incidentally, I simply wax the headlights/taillights along with the body of the car.

I wouldn't use paper towels on plastic either (the headlights).

An old cotton t shirt, sans the thread it is assembled with, works great.

I learned about newspaper cleaning windows while I was in the Marine Corps.... Very good at windows/mirrors...
