next gen 4runner

I was hoping 2016 Toyota 4runner would be the next new gen, but after recent visit to toyota website, it appears 2016 model is same 5th gen model. I am hoping 2017 will be the year for new gen model. I am hoping this new gen will have new transmission and little more fuel efficient and more powerful engine.
Have you guys heard any rumors about the next gen 4runner? I do like the current gen, but I would hate to buy new 4runner now and liking next gen better and would have to trade it or sell it after putting more custom work into it and plus lose selling value as well.

My dealer principal says his brother in law works at Toyota head office. He says the 6 gen will go to a turbo inline 4 with a new 8-speed auto box. OR you can have the option of a hybrid (same set up as the Camry). It will also be the last BoF 4R.....

I regularly talk with Kiichiro Toyoda, God Emperor of Toyota, who is actually entombed in his armor under Toyota HQ following his fateful mortal battle with the heretic Takeo Fujisawa and the Honda Chaos Legions.

He has told me that the new 4Runners will be a refresh of the current generation with substantial cosmetic mods, turbo 4's, and 8-speed transmissions.

Chaos Runners will get V8's, factory 5" lifts, and SFAs.
 
I heard it will be a Scion XB with 4runner badges on it. Unibody, FWD with 14" wheels. Engine will be a 1.1 liter inline 3 cyl with a hybrid drivetrain. Also it will have a permanently attached "Al Gore for President" sticker. Removing the sticker is a Federal felony and will void the warranty.
 
Thanks for the replies. Since those are rumors it is hard to know now who is joking and who is serious. But it does seem like, getting turbo smaller engine to get lighter weight and more speed gearbox for fuel efficiency seems to be the trend these days. As long as it is still body on frame and maintains its current gen rugged look somewhat (not too bubbly look like lexus and land cruiser) I am all okay for light weight and new gear box. I have driven subaru forrester with new turbo and do not really like how the turbo feels vs naturally aspirated big engine. I feel like bigger naturally aspirated engine has more smooth acceleration. As far as reliability for turbos, I am guessing they are getting better somewhat.
 
I hear too they will be offering a super charged 4.6, superb

i have not heard any news about next gen 4runner

but i do like the current gen and the previous one. i hope toyota will continue to make this truck instead of cross over. my 2013 4runner are quite fuel efficient.
 
I heard that the new 4runner is going to be powered by human turds...you literally crap into the driver's seat and the vehicle absorbs said crap and transforms it into raw energy...the self-wiping feature is going to be a $3,500 option, which is total bull if you ask me.

I would pay that to crap in my seat while driving. Can you pee too is the real question.

If they really wanted sales, they would make it over-all smaller, put a 3.4L V6 in it; you know cause it produces a whopping 190HP, with a 4 speed transmission. Then as far as the body is concerned, go retro...something you might see from say 96-02, IDK just spitballing here.

Right now, I wouldn't take anything said about the next gen 4Runner seriously until there are official announcements to back it up.

That said, who wouldn't want a SC or Turbo 5.7 in the next 4Runner?
