NGK Sparkplugs: Are the Laser Iridiums worth the extra cents over the Iridium IX?

After just turning 115,100 miles on my V8 earlier this week, I figure I should start thinking about spark plugs soon. Are the NGK Laser Iridiums worth the extra $.35 each over the NGK Iridum IX? I haven't searched too deeply on pricing yet. I have checked Rock Auto and the prices are as follows:

NGK Part # 3764 {#3540, BKR6EIX11, BKR6EVX11} Iridium IX $6.09

Also, NGK boasts about their strong corrosion resistance and how applying anti-seize is not necessary, do people still choose to use anti-seize? If so, what kind?

I replaced my plugs a few months ago with lasers. I noticed stronger/smoother pull at higher rpm. And yes do use anti seize shouldn't matter what kind you get. A then cost a few bucks.
 
The ONLY advantage Platinum or Iridium has over standard copper plugs is longevity. I too see a difference when I change my plugs. That's because the older plugs weren't performing as well as they should.

If there was even a chance for a .1% increase in performance then every professional race car on the planet would be using them. And they don't. They use standard copper plugs. They replace them before each race. They're NOT looking for longevity...just performance. And the standard copper plugs give them all the performance that's possible. So it's not worth it for them to use Platinum or Iridium plugs.

Some vehicles - you can only get Iridium plugs for (wifes Lexus ES-350). That's a good thing. Those rear plugs are a royal pain to replace.
 
Just buy the denzos from the dealer they are cheaper and its what the owners manual recommends. You will get back lost power with any plug so don't believe all the hype about better plugs make you faster or save you fuel. Im gettin 21mpg with oem plugs from the dealer. Yes, I used a lil bit of anti seize, the dealer gave me a small packet!

CHEAPER??? You must have a discount dealer near you. The Denso plugs from the dealer are 4-5 times the price I can buy the EXACT SAME DENSO plug from my local parts store. The 3 Toyota dealers near me sell them for $21-EACH.
 
NGK seems to have good feedback from members of this board. I am definitely going for longetivity. Would be nice to not have to worry about them for another 100k. I will probably get some anti-seize to use. I think I'll just go with the lasers. It only adds up to an extra $3 anyway.

Also, whether it says Denso in the manual or not, doesn't Toyota put half Denso half NGK on from the factory anyway?

Indeed. My 700+ rwhp 03 cobra used strictly copper NGKs.

$21 each, I do find that hard to believe. I spent $26 and some change for 6 oem plugs. I buy my oil filters from the dealer for $4.99 + tax. I guess the dealers here in NM really know how to keep customers comin back.
 
You can believe what you want. I know what the prices are. I've NEVER ever seen a dealer selling parts even close to the local parts store. $4.99 for Iridium plugs from the dealer...you're DREAMING...You can't even buy them at discount houses for that price.
 
I went to Advanced Auto yesterday. Got 8 laser indiums, a can of seafoam, and a pack of anti seize for $81. I think I got a decent deal considering places wanted $13 to ship them.

EBay has good prices too. I have a good local parts store near me. While their prices may not be as low as ebay..they are good. And if I have any problem with anything I buy they take care of it with no questions asked. I just can't see paying dealer prices for the EXACT SAME PART. If the OEM part was better...then sure it might be worth paying the extra price...but these are the EXACT SAME PART...The ONLY difference between the Denso or NGK plugs you can buy from the dealer compared to the local parts store..is the Toyota dealers plugs have the name Toyota stamped on the plug.

That's actually news to me. I didn't even know Toyota put their name on the plugs at all. That explains the high price for sure. Some people are fooled into thinking those Denso plugs are Genuine Toyota parts.
 
I just replaced the plugs on my V8 a few days ago (for first time for me with 136k miles) and purchased the Denso plugs from Ebay as well for a great price plus free shipping. I thought I had to remove the airbox. Just the proper height extension and a swivel helps as well. I have never used antiseize on the plugs. Antisieze compound have some sort of powdery/metallic substance I don't think that is any good on an aluminum head. As long as you torque it properly, not overtorqueing it you won't have a problem removing it the next time around.
 
Spark plugs for '08 v8

Spark plugs used to be pretty simple but not these days. I have been searching for the "right " plugs but there are so many numbers I'm getting a head ache :(
The 4th gen is a few years old now, mine @ 123K miles and my mileage indicator says 16.0<>16.2 mpg. Are the plug numbers in manual valid anymore? I want to chg plugs and this may be the only set of plugs I ever put in this motor :) which plug is gonna last longest? laser? iridium? krypton? plutonium? platinum?
