NGK vs Denso?

hi chaps..

I'm thinking about doing the spark plugs on my rig..

but have stumbled upon this..

NGK or Denso? Iridium? Double Iridium?

I currently have NGK plugs and wires in my rig but can't decide which to stick with for the new ones..

Would running Denso plugs with NGK wires affect it? or should I change both the plugs and wires at the same time?

also, are there any differences between NGK and Denso?

Last weekend I did Denso plugs from Toyota and NGK TE66 wires. Runs great. For plugs, consensus is that Denso and NGK are both excellent (and OEM), and that anything else (Bosch, Champion, etc.) sucks monkeys.
 
NGK all the way, in every vehicle I have ever ran. I would blow out spark from running so much boost on every spark plug except NGK. 35psi on .028 gap on NGK non projected plugs!
 
Nothing but NGK all the years I have been riding motorcycles, and wouldn't run anything else in a Japanese engine.
 
When I changed my plugs last year I went with NKG and noticed a loss of fuel mileage. Last month I changed to Denso and raised my MPG by 2 or so. NKG plugs looked fine when I pulled them with approx 8K miles on them. My local Toyota dealer said the Denso is what they recommend. Others on this board have said they are the same plug, and came from the factory with both. Just my experience, ymmv.

Your wires aren't that old so you may not need to. I was already going to and had them, and it's good that I did. The clips on mine that held them on the coil packs were so brittle after 12 years that I broke all 3 when removing.

The NGK plug part number is BKR5EKB-11.

The Denso part number is K16TR11.

Both are dual-electrode, which is important.
 
our trucks have whats called wasted spark ignition. its an interestng read if you decide to google it. it explains why toyota requires a dual ground plug.

That said, NGK offers a laser iridium which I will probably give a try on the next plug change. It has an iridium center electrode and a platinum tipped ground. Potentially maintaining the proper gap for 100k miles. Something the recommended plug can't do.

I prefer NGK but Denso makes a great product.

As for the wires, yours probably have a lot of life left in them but at $35 for a set of new NGK wires, I'd probably just replace them. Who knows, you might get better mileage and they would pay for themselves with gas at $4.50/gallon.

The reason why there were three of each brand is/was because Toyota had a contract with both companies and to insure they used them equally they put both in each engine. I had a blown Taco and at 50K miles I changed the plugs and found the Denso to show 50K miles of wear and the NGK looked like new. I also have had highly modded motorcycles for many years and I would not even think of using anything other then NGKs, due to issues with ALL other brands.

And secondly , can I go to iridium plugs vs standard? Would our rigs benefit from iridium plugs? Or would the standard be sufficent enough?

but my other question..

will our rigs benefit from the NGK Laser Platinum plugs vs the NGK Iridium IX plugs?

or will the NGK Iridium IX plugs should be sufficient enough?

downside is the price differenece of $5 dollars an pop..

Question on spark plug wires

For the new wires:
"NGK PLUGS & WIRES( NGK TE66 Spark Plug Wire Set ) all the way..."

Stupid question here: this set has three wires. Since I have the six-cylinder I'll need two sets, yes?

Sorry for the dumb question, just want to buy what I need :)
