NHTSA will now allow HID Kits

Found the article below where NHTSA has reversed its previous stand of prohibiting changing OEM lighting with different technologies, for example putting HID in vehicles that had halogen as OEM. Of course lighting changes still have to meet FMVSS 108 and DOT requirements, but now OK to change to HID if done right. Be interesting to see how the aftermarket responds with more kits or not.

The way I read it, it means you can change to HID if you replace the entire headlamp unit (ie, reflector+bulb from a legitimately-equipped HID vehicle like a Benz), not retrofit HID bulbs into halogen reflectors.
