Nickelback - Hate 'em or Love 'em?

I know you've heard of them. Question is, do you like their music? I've heard a lot of mixed feelings.

As far as musical substance, they're not so great
As far as "good time, rock tunes" they're alright
Would I ever pay to see them live? Absolutely not
Would I go with free tickets? Maybe, depends if there's a hockey game on that night
 
I think they are good time rock n roll band and they seem mostly geared toward an older audience in their 30s (definelty not seeking the approval of the early 20s crowd) seeking simple fun rock music and they definelty have all the arena tricks down. Some people say they just recycle the same music over and over but so does AC/DC and they are in the RR HOF. I'm not saying Nickleback is in that caliber but they carved out a nice living for themselves and still were the 4th biggest selling artist of the last decade.

Nickleback is the vanilla wafers of rock music meaning they aren't bad but nothing to go crazy about.

They definitely do recycle their music. Still, though, I like them.

I absolutely despise them. I think Octane on XM has been doing a week or something dedicated to them, something like that, I don't know since I now won't listen to that station (gone way downhill like the rest of XM).

If I saw the singer of Nickleback on the street, I would get into my truck and mow him down.

here here i second that. i dont think there has been any good bands since the 90s. most new rock blows. metal is the way.
 
I used to like them, like 10+ years ago before they were signed. The 1st 2 indie albums were actually really good (Curb and The State, actually worth checking out), and I've been to see them live a few times back then when it was like $5 a ticket, and they were really good live.

Then they were signed, and it's like the record label handed them a template for all new music, and I haven't been a fan since. Currently, not a fan, I go out of my way to avoid anything new put out by them. I went and washed my truck during half time of the Grey Cup game yesterday because they were playing.

@RonMAIDEN, I agree this shouldn't turn into another hate Nickleback thread.

BUT it can easily be a "name every band that doesn't suck like Nickleback does" thread.



This great unofficial video is to one of my favorite songs by NIN.

Some of Trent Rezner's recordings are such high quality that they make for good test tracks. This song in particular is great for testing a sound system because it has very** low distortion and both high and low parts.

hate em today. loved em in 2000. they've gradually gotten more stale and vanilla over the years, as most pop/rock bands do. I listen to mostly metal these days, and dabble in a little reggae when I want to chill out. the mainstream rock stations are spewing pure crap right now in my opinion. everybody wants to be nickleback or hinder, they all sound just alike and they all suck.
 
i like them, would i put them in my ipod? no, would i nod my head if they are playing in the elevator? yes

Seriously? You put those 3 with bands with Linkin Park (and the others)? You may not like their music (we all have our own tastes), but to say they 'suck', that is just wrong. Bands as 'large' as they were/are, not to mention the social/political changes they brought about, can never 'suck'. I don't like the music of Elvis, but he does not 'suck'.

I knew I was going to catch hell for those 3. I'm not referring to "what they accomplished" just that those are probably 3 of the most over rated bands of all time! To be fair, I have multiple albums from all 3 bands in my iTunes. I just think people put way too much emphasis on how "great" they are and I disagree. To be fair, if we had a list of most influential bands, then they would probably be on that list too.
