The Beatles and Stones overated? I'm jot a monster fan but somebody needs a history lesson and understand how things were back in the early '60s when they broke. They put Rock n Roll on the fast track along with Elvis.

I'm mostly into hard rock and metal but I try not too look dumb and bag on other people's music unless they listen to truly bad music like boy bands,teeny bopper girls and generally stuff that will die and never be heard from again after a few years.

I'm also not into the DJ/electronica craze and people that spin records and rap simply isn't my taste but I give everthing at leasat one listen so I can form a educated opinion about something.

That song is part of the reason I hate that band so much, it should have been titled FAIL. I watched the video on mute though, and that was awesome! I like the NIN video especially the "If you wouldn't say it to Stalin, Don't say it" part. It got me thinking of other old NIN vids I've seen. Have you ever seen the Broken Movie? Talk about some seriously sick $h!t. If you're at work and curious, wait until you get home it is NSFW (no seriously, you'll get fired for watching the Broken Movie at work)

Look, I think you got the wrong idea about what I meant, so I'll try and explain it again. Yes, I think they are over rated, I'm making this judgement based solely on their song/albums. Not in regards to their political influence or what they accomplished or started, etc.
Picture this, you're sitting on the computer and all the music you have is cycling randomly. All I'm saying is that I don't particularly care for most of their music and can't understand why so many people are heads over heels about them.
Look, its not like I was talking bad about Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix or Pink Floyd, so chill out. This is my point though, why do people get so sore if you say something bad about the Beatles, Stones or Dead. Get over it, their music wasn't ins't that great. I'm not saying my favorite bands are going to live on in infamy, but then again, I don't expect everyone/anyone to like my music.

I like the NIN video especially the "If you wouldn't say it to Stalin, Don't say it" part. It got me thinking of other old NIN vids I've seen.

The NIN video is actually "fan made" with REAL footage from the US Nuclear tests in NV in the 1950s.

US Army troops seen in the video were placed relatively nearby during the operation. I am not sure of the actual distance but it has been reported as 5 miles by some of the tests.

Looking at the footage, you can see the air & dust blow over them

I find it pretty incredible that the video is timed just so the music goes high during the explosions

Actually, if you listen to the lyrics, you do get the idea. (Yeah yeah, I know...who listens to metal for the lyrics.) What cracks me up is that bands like that (you know, decent bands) get crap from the 'Christian establishment' because they sing about *gasp* things like being depressed, feeling hatred at certain things/feelings/events, etc.

You know, stuff EVERYONE EXPERIENCES in life. LOL

And yeah I've seen that clip - I think it's hilarious. I've met people like that, heard bands like that; and cannot STAND them. Cheese is cheese.

Reminds me of the time I was @ Six Flags near Atlanta back in 1994; and almost got escorted out of the park because I could not stop laughing at the guy who was headbanging to AMY GRANT. I'm serious as a heart attack.

Dusty,I didn;t mean to come across angry or touchy I was just saying there's alot to music including the time period it was bred and that goes for all music.
The reason there's alot of people that go crazy over alot of those older bands is because they've bene around for 50 years and you tend to accumulate alot of fans when your music does defy time and is still pretty relevant years later.

It's nice having choices of music out there today but when you go back to the 60s and wanted something that rocked a bit more you were severly limited to what you could listen to hence the Beatles and Stones being pretty important to alot of baby boomers since it was new territory.
We're spoiled with all the muisc choices we have today.

Likewise, I don't consider myself an authority on (C)rap music because I hate it, but I'm interested in hearing your opinions about metal. I assume you like Iron Maiden, based on your name, what else?
I like metal, but not a lot of the new "screamo" metal like White Chapel or 36 Crazy Fists (though it is a cool name). Then again, I'm one of the few metal fans I know that isn't a big fan of Slayer either.

Nickelback is pop rock. I personally don't mind them unless they get played on a hard rock station. Then, I DESPISE them.
