Now that is cutting edge high tech for a truck!
Can you take a larger pic of placement, just to give us an idea of how to keep your eye on it and the road.

Placement of Night Vision Camera

I had a special brakcet built to replace the Toyota insignia, looks awesome and provides some good theft protection. Others have cut out the grill since the unit is only 3 inches cubed, but, I liked the idea of having it higher up. The cost is not that bad considering I have already avoided about 12 deer and a person walking without a flashlight. The unit gives you images about 3-4 times that of the headlights, besides, off roading is even cooler as you can see right through dust, smoke, and light fog!!!!

Night Vision with Z1 input

I went with the Z1 because it has "trailer mode" which allows you to view a backup camera and the NAV map in a split screen. I used a Video switch to manually flip between the backup camera and the FLIR unit, the video switch was placed in the center console where the optional "air ride" switches go and next to the Down Hill Assist button. I also put a power switch there to power the unit on when I want. What I also did which is cool is split the video feed from the FLIR, one video feed went to the video switch, the other went to an aux output RCA connector under the glove box. With this aux output I can then hook up the video feed to the RCA connectors which go into the Z1 Aux input channel. This allows me to view the image in full screen mode (but you loose your radio and NAV unit).

Awesome mod - that is some really cool technology on board you got there.

Q) but what happens if there is a komodo dragon or anaconda , or other giant cold-blooded reptile in the road?

Lizzards....

Hey, it will show up just fine. Personally I will stop the car and then pick up the lizzard transfer to my tank at home...Or, I think you get at least 500 points if you run over a large snake...Maybe more if it is an anaconda. :)

Heat sensing technology AND it will spot an animal that is very close to the same temp as its surroundings?! NOW that thing is worth it.

Cadillac had an IR camera option on their DTS a few years ago. I remember it as expensive and read the Raytheon imaging tube was in short supply. Maybe in conflict with military demand??

I haven't seen any ads for it lately. Is it still available?
