Nitto Grappler vs Toyo Open Country AT3

What are your thoughts on the Nitto Ridge Grappler vs Toyo Open Country AT3? P285/70/17. I'm not off-roading and live in Florida. I'm interested in looks and tread life. Thanks for your thoughts.

i have 285 RG c loads and they do get significantly louder at around the 20k mile mark. pretty quiet when new though. i suspect the AT3s will be quieter overall

I run both these tires but both in stock size. However, with the RG I run load C and AT3 I run P-rated. RG pros - the tread pattern looks awesome and so does the sidewall. The ride is quiet and road noise is minimal. Rain performance is much better than the stock Terra Grapplers that come with the TRD Pro. RG cons - when you sit them for a week it always takes about 5-10 min of highway driving for some flat spotting vibration to go away. Snow performance is not great. AT3 pros - these are 3PMSF rated and perform much better in snow. They are also softer but I suspect that's because these are P-rated. The treat pattern looks good and very happy with dry and wet performance. AT3 cons - they don't look as cool as the RG. If I had to pick one tire - the Toyo Open Country AT3 is the better tire.

Since it rains a lot in FL, I would prioritize it in terms of
1) wet traction
2) tire weight
3) tread life

Toyo OC A/T III comes in a P-metric SL load (117T) at 46 lbs in that size.
NRG also comes in a P-metric SL load (116Q) at 48.74 lbs in that size.

They are basically the same price. The Toyo has a longer treadlife warranty (65k miles), and a higher speed rating. I would go with the Toyo but that's me. I have the Toyo in E load 255/80R17 and love them.

Can't comment on the Nitto's but I installed Toyo Open Country AT3's on my new 4runner with 15 miles on the clock. So far so good, they ride nice on the highway and seem to handle rain well. I have the P-metric size so the tread pattern is not as aggressive as the LT version.

Nitto is a subsidiary of Toyo, and the Nitto Terra Grappler is an older design.

Based on that alone, I'd go with the recently released Toyo AT3.

AT3 availability in Canada

Has anyone in Canada found a supplier for the new AT3 ?? , looks like they are only available in the US at the moment, tried to email Toyo directly but never got a reply !

I have the 285 AT3's in the P metric version. I've put about 12k on them and overall I like them. Road handling is excellent and they are decent in the snow. Off road they are OK but not fantastic. I kinda wish the C-load BFG A/T's I had bought before them balanced better honestly. That's why I wound up with these. If you rotate them religiously they will be awesome. If you don't and they chop like mine do they will get REALLY loud. The shop I got mine from apparently doesn't care much about doing a good alignment and I haven't had the time to get mine on the rack at work to see what's up. So I rotate them every oil change.

Lots of online availability from what I've found as I am currently price shopping the AT III's. My local shop that will be doing the work doesn't seem to have an issue procuring them...

I got mine from my local Fountain Tire. Had them the next day and took my stock tires in on trade.
