Nitto Tire Size Questions

I've got a 1999 Limited. I was looking on here and between the Nitto tires on here and the reviews from Consumer Reports awhile back I think I'm leaning towards getting a set. I have Good Year Fortera on there right now.

Anyhow, the standard size is 265/70/16. Nitto does not make this size. Discount tire says I can go up to the 265/75/16. What does this mean?

Also, I don't have any local Nitto dealers so I call a tire shop to ask how much they'd charge to put those tires on my rims for me. He said "I'm not sure we'd do that to tell you the truth, that size is not the Toyota recommended size and I don't know that we would do that". I'm thinking that's BS but this leaves all leaves me with some questions

1) What does going up to the 75 series do? 3/4" higher? What does this do for steering/clearance etc.
2) I've read on here all the vibration problems etc. I'm hesitant to go outside of the Recommended Toyota specs. Opinions?
3) What are other Nitto owners doing? Going up a size?

Thanks in advance,

DC

265/75 is the one size up and it definetly improves the look and with Nittos it'll look more the off road part. I love mine and you'll have zero issues going up one size.

I don't know if you have any Discount Tire shops in your area but any reputable multi brand shop should be able to get you the Nittos and do the install.
Gas mileage might be affected just a tad since the Nittos will be the D load range and make sure you get that load range since some dealers will sell you the E load range which is major overkill on a Runner and the cost is about $20 more a tire so make sure you get what you need.

IMO Nittos are the best AT tires for daily driving duties (coupled with actual off roading) also since dry grip is very good and wet grip and hydroplaning resistance is very good also.

75 is the aspect ratio.. basically it meants its 75% of the width.. its gonna be 3% taller or about an inch in height difference at most.. making it a 31.5 inch tire.

i have goodyear mtrs and i was gonna get nittos but i got real impatient.

mine have even more tread and dont rub inless im hitting a bump at full wheel lock so you are good on the nittos.
