No.1 Water By-Pass Pipe -- '94 V6 G2

Hi -- Does anyone have any experience of replacing this pipe? Mine has a small leak on the elbow of the small pipe that carries the Cold Start Injector pipe. I've tried to seal it with Plastic Metal, but it's gone again.

A simple fix to braze over the leak hole, but first I have to remove the whole By-Pass pipe. Only trouble is you can't get to it because it runs behind the block rear surface & the bulkhead. Can't see how to remove it, or what has to be taken off first ....

4Runner is off the road & I'm stuck. Any clues welcome.....

Have bunged hole up with more Plastic Metal, as I can't remove the pipe. Have done something naughty in the process........
Leak stopped, but have screwed up somewhere. Removed rocker cover & throttle body to give myself more room. On re-assembly, engine won't idle at all & runs very badly below 3k RPM. Perfect before I dabbled... Not driveable in a remote, hilly area on narrow roads.

Is it important that I've removed the Cold Start pipe from the throttle body? Do I need to bleed or prime coolant?

OK, 3 days of Internet research later I can answer my own post.

Problem with no idle & appaling low-speed running was that the lower trunking to the air filter housing had become displaced, & was leaking air. Re-connected, & no problem ..... Good

BUT, still could get no clue on the way to remove the No.1 water by-pass hose. Eventually found the perfect answer via another forum archives -- TOYOTA 3VZE top-end strip by Morphine --http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=51371&page=9&pp=25&highlight=3VZ.

Superb illustrated string showing the stripping of the top-end of a 3VZ-E, & subsequent rebuild. Pix from the author & other posters identified that this pipe runs in the space above the top of the block, beneath the air manifold. Nasty, but better than engine out!

Hope this helps anyone else who gets hit by this pipe corroding through. Colin
