No Audio - 04 Limited V8

JBL Audio system died after a cold night and snow/ice storm. First noticed that rear hatch door was frozen shut but eventually got it open & clear, works ok now, probably not related but an indication of conditions. Next noticed I had no audio - head unit display is blank, doesn't respond to on/off, volume, steering wheel mode sw., key on/off etc. A faint ticking noise from cd changer every 5 secs. or so. Checked the fuses that I can find documentation on - 2 under the hood (radio 1 and radio 2) and 1 under dash left side (Acc) and of course they are ok because why would it be that easy. Would really appreciate any help.

Update - about 2 weeks later after a mild weekend and not using the truck I start it up to drive to work and the audio is back - spontaneously without me doing anything. Like nothing happened except the station presets are gone. WTF?

If station presets disappeared, then the head unit likely had no power source and the memory cleared. Maybe you have a loose wire/connector somewhere behind the radio? You could pull the head unit out and double check the wiring, maybe use a voltmeter to verify a power source while you jiggle things around back there.This might identify a loose or broken connection.

It's also very possible that the head unit itself is going bad. Sounds like it might be time for an upgrade! Good luck, post back if you discover the problem (or upgrade!).

I would get the battery checked at next service - this could be a sign your old faithful panasonic may need replacing before next winter..

Good suggestions all, thanks for the input. Thinking back I probably cleared the presets when I pulled the fuses to check them. Have had some cold nights since the radio came back but no further outage yet. Like the upgrade idea, that could be fun and I have a good excuse.
