No Backup Lights

Gauges work, but backup lights do no. Fuse 5 is good. Not sure what's going on. Any thoughts? 1994 4Runner SR5 4WD.

Reverse lights do not work. Gauge lights work fine.

Well we could start simple. Do you know you have good bulbs?

Indeed. Checked them myself. Just now. Bulbs are good.

Do you have a multi meter?
If you do pull the fuse ground the ground and have the ignition on with it in reverse and check to see if you are getting power through the fuse

I'm pretty sure the fuse is good, because the other components powered by the fuse still work. I also turned on the ignition, put it in reverse, and used the multimeter to see if I am getting power at the light socket, which I am not. I have confirmed that there is no power at the backup light lights when in reverse.

Well my first thought would be to take the inside cover off the tail gate and see if the are there and then see if they have been pinched between the tailgate and the body. (I hate wiring issues they are just a pain in he ass

I do have power to the license plate lights, so i'm thinking that the wiring "should" be okay.

Where is this located? I see a few plugs up in that area. Driver side, passenger side, front, rear?

I think the reverse switch is on the drivers side. I would guess towards the front, but not sure.

On my W56, it's on the drivers side, sticking out the side of the trans, can't miss it. I don't know about your r150, but that's the first thing I'd check. Put the truck in reverse (tcase in N, ebrake on, chock the wheels!) and crawl underneath to check voltage at that pigtail coming out of the trans.

Great. I just looked, and a replacement OE switch is like $21, so I'll pick one up on the way home and hope that's it.

Replaced the reverse switch. Lights work again! :zoom:

On my W56, it's on the drivers side, sticking out the side of the trans, can't miss it. I don't know about your r150, but that's the first thing I'd check. Put the truck in reverse (tcase in N, ebrake on, chock the wheels!) and crawl underneath to check voltage at that pigtail coming out of the trans.

Second that. Wire or insulation there could wear out from rubbing against tranny body.
