So we can all understand what kind of deals are out there and what we should be paying tell us what your 4runners MSRP was and what you paid. No taxes and no invoice bs, just the numbers we all can see when we look at the sticker at the dealership. Also if you had a trade the dealer only gave you "trade-in value" for it no matter what the numbers show so facter that in. Thanks for the info in advance, you are helping other future owners?

I would like to know what the going rate for a 2005 SE is going for as I am going shopping tomorrow for one. I am trading in a 2003 V6 Runner

SE V8 4X4

I am in St. Louis area. I am looking for 4R Sport v8 4X4.
Nearly all 4Rs have sunroof & JBL audio.
Dealers are quoting me around $32,400 OTD (excluding Title, Taxes and Licence fees)
Is this too much?
I am willing to make a purchase at the earliest.

If its including taxes and everything, then thats a good deal. find out what invoice is with all the options and offer them nothing over $200 over invoice, and if there is a rebate use that after you
you negiotiate. I would email all the internet sales people at all the local Toyota dealerships and get the price down as low as possible before making a trip down there or call and ask for the interenet fleet manager. This will garranty that you get the best deal possible. Goodluck

That's interesting because if you go to Edmunds that is about exactly what you should pay if you are getting a good deal. About 4600 off with the 1000 rebate.

Thanks for replies

Just out of curiosity,
Would MSRP minus 20% be OK when it comes to payment for options.
Say if MSRP of Sunroof is $900, then subtract 20%, we should be paying $720. Does that sound reasonable.....or if anybody paid lower than this....

look on www.carmax.com, hands down the best prices. I bet you can find a 4R , buy a cheap oneway ticket and drive it back and still save money. People from all over the US do this at the carmax's. If you look in the baltimore DC area you will find alot of 4 runners. Laurel toyota has 98 different 4 runners right now.
THey have great prices, check em out..

i see the edmonds still doesn't have a listing 4 the optional airbags. The various carpet kits were also a source of confusion and then trying to find a truck with everything u wanted is another story.
I'm glad I got all the important stuff i wanted and a price i'm happy with.
I only wish i had found this site b4 i bought. then i would've realised i could 've held out for leather seats!

I checked them out and their no haggle price is what you can do at most dealers and they "steal" your trade-in. I compared the trade-in to sales price average on say a used Nissan 350Z and they will pocket $5000 on a no hassle deal. I don't call that a deal. :( Carmax use to have good deals back in the mid 90's when they first got started. They now have way to much over head. Also you can work the internet sales staff at several Toyota dealerships and get them working agains't each other and beat their new car deals.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I looked on carmax and found a 4R sport V8 4X4 with sunroof for $31,158 (after Toyota rebate)

Is this a good deal.

Thank you all

I agree, I would never trade in at carmax. I recently sold a 2000 Volvo S40 for 12,500 carmax trade in was 8500. I also considered trading in my last vechicle at carmax, a 2003 Jetta GL. Carmax offered 8700, I sold it for 11,900. So all Carmax will give you at most is KBB trade in value. But I think for this area, from my experience most dealers would not get too close to the carmax prices. Towards the end of the summer and start of fall watch the price of 4 runners dip down to the mid 27K range. September was a great time to buy at carmax last year. I was so close to buying a 4 runner last sept from carmax but I waited and bought my 4R from a private seller In DEC and got an outstanding deal on it. Not many folks are buying used cars in DEC I guess because I lowballed the crap out of him and he sold it to me. I think he was hard up for money. Anyways, it was a good deal for me, IM glad I waited but
I still really want a Galatic Grey V8 Sport, and I got a Stratmosphere V6 sport, So ......now IM rambling......

As much as I don't like to defend dealers, you can't expect them to pay you the same amount for your used car as what you can get from a private party. Thats why kelly bb lists value according to those different circumstances. The dealer is doing a service by paying you instantly for your tradein and many tradeins are beaters that the dealer is doing a service by taking at all.
Getting ripped by the dealer in atradeoff is up to the smart owner, who if really smart and able would sell it themselves.

Anytime you trade a vehicle in they pay you instantly. If the car you are selling is in perfect condition then you should never take Kbb trade in value. You need to look at the whole deal, and the dealer can make money on one end or the other but I won't let them make it on both ends.
