No driveline clunk when taking it easy.

Now that I've "settled in" with my 4R and gas is pushing $4. (3.95 here today) I find myself babying the truck to max out the mileage.
The fringe benefit is that I've not heard the clunk nor felt like I was tapped from behind in many weeks.
Guess that windup only happens when the motor is really making torque.

you could attribute it to motor torque but it is essentially the transfer of weight from front to back during acceleration and visa versa during braking causes the distance between the rear diff and the center diff to change thus causing the drive shaft to have to slip within its "casing" that is what causes the klunk.

your ease on the gas and brake minimize this transfer of weight thus alleviating the klunk

That makes sense.

I still have the driveshaft clunk, even after greasing all the nipples with Mobil1 full syn grease. (04 V8 with 42K miles on it) What would be the next step to fixing this issue? I'm guessing taking the driveshafts appart and cleaning each slip joint, then putting them back together. If anybody has any other suggestions, I would like to hear them.

I don't think there is a "fix". read the previous post, it's a design "flaw" and something we just have to live with.
