went out on the ice for the first time this year. first time with the 4r. its a 05 4th gen. 4.0 and the traction control. wont let me have any fun 
no fun on the ice :(

The Auto LSD - Limited Slip Differential - can be activated, which acts as a dumb 4wd. It sending power to the wheel that is not slipping rather than to the wheel that is slipping. Again, not letting you peel out...

Nothing you can do in 2 wheel drive. In 4wd you can hit the central diff lock and get rid of part of the traction control but not all of it. It is a great system to help you drive on slippery surfaces, even if you don't want the help. It is perfect for my wife.
Like 03 4Runner says there is a way around it. You have to add a switch somewhere.

i searched. it, and found if i unplug a sensor. i takes off vsc and atrac. and went back out. it was such a blast. all from a 5 second unplug.

If it's the plug I'm t hinking of, you also just removed the ABS I believe?!

yes it does turn off abs also but some prefer that when offroading, which i assume the op is doing when having fun on the ice. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/polls/63678-abs-off-switch.html heres one type of mod that turns them off with switch. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/members/emelianenkov-albums-vsc+modification.html.

i am not sure. if it does or not. or not. but when your on a big lake does it really matter? ill find the like. and post it for everyone.

Yeah, that should be the one. ABS is turned off too with that unpluged I believe. Test it. If the brakes don't pulsate it's off.
And true, on an iced up lake, having fun, I guess there is no harm in that. Just if you take it to the street like that, keep it in mind, the brakes won't pulsate and you're gonna need to pump the brakes yourself to be able to turn around obstacles in an emergency stop.
But.....since you are on a open lake. This is also a good opportunity to test out the VSC and get comfortable with it. Many people complain about how it feels like the engine stalls when they slip.
Try taking curves with it on, with a direction in mind. Not just with the idea of doing donuts. Kind of like you were racing around a track. You need to have some trust in the system, and just keep you foot on the gas. reflex says that you take your foot off when it starts to beep and blink. Don't do that. Once you have staightened out, and you stil have your foot on the gas the truck just takes off in an instant. Try it. I find that pretty fun too. take a curve, start to slide out, vsc helps to stop the sideways slide, and then BAM, i'm off in a straight line.

:Thanks for the link, now if it would snow. I would use some tape to cover up the open ends and zip tie or tape the wire harness so it doesn't bounce around and get beat up.
