No harness, wire to pin easy??

Hello!!

Sorry for the very stupid question:

Ok, for those "in the know", I got an E7009. I'm aware that it is pretty much plug in play, but you DO have to connect VSS & Reverse signal. The wire harness for this (I believe it's a 4pin harness) was available thru Canada, but no longer is! Apparently all you do is (if you DON'T have the harness) get the wire and get it to "touch" the pins at the rear of the HU..........isn't it dangerous to solder the wire to the pins?????

How did you guys without a harness do this? I've tried heading to Radio Shack and found pretty much nothing, can someone please guide me? :sadwave:

Today I got the connector (OEM: 90980-12404) and to my surprise it's just a plastic piece (no wires)........do I just fish the small wires through the holes? How do I secure them?

Thank you for any response...................sorry about my "noobie-ness" on electronics. I installed a NAVI in my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee and had minimal issues, but I had wire harnesses..

I just bought a nav system too (e7019) and was wondering the same thing, because it is plug and play with my car (no JBL) it does not come with any wiring harnesses. I figured I would just solder wire to the pins, but I dont know the pins. If you know the pin out, it would be awesome if you would share it (should be the same on most if not all toyota navs) and if you find a source for a harness that would be awesome too.

As far as connectors, I'm in the middle of buying some harnesses that an ebayer supplies. He claims he does supply the harness for the VSS/Reverse (but on another thread, the poster claims it's just a generic audio/cdrom connector)...........I'll keep everyone up to date on that one!

If I can't get the correct harnesses, I'll have to find a way to connect the wires........GAWD!!!!!!! I must be making this harder than it probably is......I just don't want to thrash the pins!! :lookout:

I wired straight to the VSS pin and reverse pin last night... worked great and very easy.
VSS hooks up to the purple and red wire in the wiring bundle covered with tape below the radio behind the HVAC controls
(i didnt hook the reverse wire up to anything tho since I am not using a reverse camera, at lease not yet)

Just be careful not to melt the connector if you ever think about needing to use a real harness. I didn't melt it, but I think it would be easy if you weren't careful.
Dont worry about solder on the pins, you can always use a solder wick to get rid of it later. just make sure the solder is only touching the pin you want and not bridging to the one next to it, looks like a sure way to have a short.
