No headlight ON warning?

Hey guys,

I have a question about the parking/headlights on the 4Runner (4th gen).

With the key out of the ignition switch and the door open, there is no warning sound when I turn on the parking/headlights.

Shouldn't there be a some sort of warning buzzer/bell....letting me know that I have left my lights on?

Most cars I've seen (including those I've owned) make some sort of noise when the parking/headlights are turn on...with no key in the ignition and/or driver door open.

OR, will the 4Runner shut off the lights after a certain time period?

If I'm not mistaken all 4th gen have auto-off headlights. Therefore, you would not need a warning. The Limited has auto-on also. You can also have the stealer adjust the off delay.

That's correct. The owners manual covers auto off headlight.
Putting the warning signal on headlight on would simply makes additional noise.
 
Maybe I missed something

I read the manual which said there was a 3rd position on the lite switch for the auto off feature to work. The pic in the manual didn't match my lite switch. I am paranoid about these systems already. Anyway after turning off my truck and waiting for the lites to fade several times, no luck, so I switch them off manually.
 
Mine shutoff maybe after 30 seconds. Close the door leave the truck and lock it with the keyfob and wait.

If you want instant off, just hit the lock key on the key fob twice and the lights will turn off.
 
This subject reminds me of a conversation I had with my Dad - he has a Jag back in the UK with auto lights on and off - he complains that the auto on feature is that sensitive it turns the lights on and off if he drives along a road and passes under a tree even. Mine has auto-on (Canadian SR5 with 3rd row seats has it also) - it never gets messed around in this way - turns them on automatically when they are needed and leaves them on long enough for me to get to the front door at night. Cool truck:)
 
The automatic off lights will only work when the headlights are turned on with the truck running or the key in the on position. They are programmed to turn off 30 seconds after the driver door is opened. They will also turn off if you push the lock button twice. If you turn the headlights on with the truck off, they will supposedly go off after 30 minutes to save the battery, though I never tried that myself. They will NOT go off after 30 seconds nor with pushing the lock button on the remote twice. The same goes for the parking lights, but instead of going off after 30 seconds, they go off when the driver door is opened. I still always wait until my lights go off because I feel the one time I don't wait, they will not turn off and I will be left with a dead battery.
 
It does work - I believe the manual recommends you turn the lights off manually if you are leaving your truck parked for more than a week however.
 
another headlight question

Sorry if this has been asked before, but not sure how to search this on the forum...but...

On regular low beam, it is normal for the passenger headlight beam to be a little higher (shine out a little farther) than the driver side.

I really haven't noticed this on my 4Runner, but I do notice it on my other car which just came out of the shop for headlight adjustments.

It is to prevent blinding the other driver.... or the possiblity of it.
