No Mid EQ in SR5 Audio Settings

Have a two week old '04 SR5 with the standard stereo head unit. The manual indicates that one can adjust the settings for Bass, Mid, Treble, Fade and Balance. My stereo only toggles between Bass, Treble, Fade and Balance...there is no setting for Mid adjustment.

Has anyone else had this experience or did I get a bum stereo? I like dropping the EQ a little in the Mid setting but can't.

mid might be a setting only on the JBL headunits

According to the manual there are two radio types...I and II, (the standard found in the SR5 and the JBL 6 disc changer). Both are supposed to have the ability to control the Mid EQ. 800-GO-TOYOTA confirmed there have been no equipment changes.

Anyone else have this experience with their radio?

Actually, there are 3 types of radios:
- Single-disc non-JBL 6-speaker system.
- Single-disc JBL 10-speaker system.
- 6-disc JBL 10-speaker system.

The difference (visually) between the two single-disc systems is minimal. There is a small "JBL" imprint on the top right hand corner of the radio and the "Synthesis" labeled speakers on the JBL unit.

IIRC, only the JBL systems have the "mid" setting. I'm guessing Toyota didn't bother printing up the instructions for the two different single-disc units because they are practically the same.

My single-disc non-JBL unit never had the "mid" setting either, neither does my new Scion 6-disc unit.

The base stereo does not and never did have a "mid" control.

I chose the base stereo, because I knew I would upgrade anyways and factory "premium" sound systems are never any good. If you want decent sound, I suggest upgrading your equipment.

Thank you tkr128 and Cleric. I really thought something was wrong, especially after a 30 minute discussion with Toyota techs who insisted that the stereo should have a Mid EQ adjustment. Now I can focus on how to upgrade the head unit...which I was going to do regardless of the Mid EQ issue. I was actually hoping there might be an issue and I could convince the dealer to replace the head unit with a Scion HU under warranty conditions. No sweat, that mod isn't too pricey as long as I can pull it off myself.
