No more volume - stereo

Hi guys,

Here is the issue. Today I jumped in my truck, and the radio turned on. Problem is, it was impossible to turn up or down the volume. Everything else worked.

An hour later, after running an errand, I come back to the truck and this time, no sound at all. The stereo still turns on and off, you can change channels, etc.

When I came back home, I noticed that my antenna does not retract all the way, when I turn off the stereo there is an inch or two that stuck out.
I don't know if this is normal and I never noticed it before, or if this is new. Seems new to me but who knows!

Any ideas about what is wrong here?

Factory radio?

If yes then I'd probably assume it is broken. Hey 20 years is a pretty long life though.

Yes, factory one.

The funny thing is that I ordered a Kenwood Exelon to replace it yesterday, I was tired of not having any back lighting anymore on the OEM one and wanted the BT anyway.

But I just want to be sure that there is not something else that would maybe be speakers related or so.

I have the same thing going on with mine. I have the separate amplifier that sits behind the radio and its going south...can barley hear the radio when iam driving so i just keep it turned off....as long as your new radio replaces that amp..you'll be fine....

Ok, that's reassuring, I'll post some follow-up info after the install of my Kenwood on Wednesday!

All 4 speakers wouldn't blow at once. It's the head unit or factory amp. Which by the way should be removed as well when you replace the head unit, new ones have a built-in amp that's better than the stock one.
