No OEM Navigation from Toyota Distributors?

Hello All!!

I am interested on adding a Nav system to my 2006 SE; so, I have been reading some of the threads around the forum in order to come up with enough information to install the nav Nav #7009, bluetooth, rear view camera. (not sure if I want to do the install myself...)


I have contacts within the Toyota Distributors where I get employee discounts for parts. if I am going to save some $$$$ I better call them, right? Well, that's not the case. When I called in, they said: "You can not get an OEM nav system for your 4runner unless it comes installed from the manufacturer"

C'mom!!!, I know you can get a nav system from oemvalue.com and per my research on this forum it is clear you can install the nav, new control pads, and rear view camera after all.

I just don't want to shove all that cash for the nav

That could be true. I'm guessing on all the expensive options, like the DVD player option are reserved as factory only options. But I recall there was a post here that the factory nav is over $4000. I asked my buddy at the parts counter where I get all my Toyota parts about getting a Scion nav unit. He cannot get the Scion nav unit. Even though the sales rep at another dealership claim all Scions are shipped bare to the dealer and accessories and options are then installed and labor is charged.

I haven't bought a Scion before, but my understand was you can order a Scion from the website the options you want and it'll be delivered that way rather than be molested by the dealership prior to delivery.

Have you looked into an Eclipse nav? Very similar interface to the factory nav and adds DVD playback capabilities and steering wheel controls work without any interface.

I will take a look at the Eclipse nav, Any model in particular? I would like to have the bluetooth, and rear view camera.
 
Personally, I like the AVN5510 and the AVN6610. The AVN5510 has a single slot CD and DVD, so you cannot use navigation and playback a DVD movie at the same time. The AVN6610 has dual slot DVD. This allows you to use both navigation with DVD playback. If I had the extra money to splurge, I'll get the AVN6610 with the dual DVD slots. This way I can watch a movie while waiting for people without having to remove the DVD map disc and possibly scratching it. The only thing is Eclipse doesn't have built-in Bluetooth, but it can be added as an accessory. The Eclipse BEC106 camera is very similar to the Toyota backup camera in size. Eclipse also has iPod integration kits.
 
ill stand behind the AVN6610 being an AWESOME unit.

The pure ability to do WHATEVER you want, from ipod, sat radio, cameras, etc is awesome.

sure you MIGHT be able to do all that with the factory nav, but it will cost 3x more money, and wont work as well..
 
OK, I found the AVN6610 + Ipod adapter + Installation = $1650.00 I think it is a good price.

I believe I will still need the JBL adaptor, another $150...
 
is the AVN6610 the preferred navi here?

better than the kenwood dnx7100, and the pioneer avic-Z2?

Nope, some people speak highly of those also, although more about the Pioneer than the Kenwood.
 
After reading more Thread on the forum, I have seen people having issues with non-OEM nav (Eclipse) and the control pads. Plus, there is more OEM DIY information out there than any other nav in the market.

this is becoming a conundrum!!!!!

Have an Eclipse 6600 for nearly a year now with no problems. It has the camera, Ipod, sub, Sirus, rear video all working perfectly as addon's.

I contribute all the problems to bad installation. You really have to take your time and thriple check everything because the install is pretty involved especially when using the addon networking of modules.

I am running a 2008 Scion Navigation system in my 04 4Runner. it fits perfect and wires right up. You have to splice a wire for the speed sensor, and I am still trying to find a fix to watch DVD's while in motion.
