No power rear window or wipers

Just discovered this this morning:
My power rear window and wipers don't work.

The window works from the lock cylinder, but not the dash button. Wipers don't work at all. The wiper fluid works fine, and the rear defrost works (or at least the light comes on).

All the other dash buttons work fine.

This one's weird. Obviously the window has power, or the key would not work. The wiper isn't jammed up, and I don't believe the system 'thinks' it is, or the defrost wouldn't work (IIRC, the light will just turn back off right after you press it).


Thoughts where I should start?

Much rear gate weirdness is due to broken or shorted wires in the harness between the gate and the body (up by the hinges). Start there.

Please give your year when asking for electrical help--ALWAYS. Rear wiring is very different between '99+ and before.

Yup I spaced there. Its a 99 Limited. I even thought that because of the 99+ dash change, but then completely neglected to mention it.

I would check fuses and relays first

As Durk suggested, check the harness.

I finally got around to checking this out yesterday.
I got a CEL p1520 (Stop Light Switch Signal Malfunction), so I figured it was time to see what was up. Research showed that this was often caused by shorted wires as well.

It did turn out to be 3 wires in the loom that were messed up. 2 were broken cleanly, and the insulation on the 3rd was worn away, so it was shorting. They were all broken right at the base of the rubber cover.

I replaced the 2 broken ones and wrapped the broken insulation one with electrical tape.
I had to split the rubber cover underneath the plastic bracket that holds it to the liftgate to get some slack on the wires, and that's where I spliced in. I wrapped the hell out of the split with black electrical tape and might apply some black RTV if I suspect water is getting in.


Now my window and wipers work, and the CEL is gone too.

Easy fix, I was able to do it during my lunch break at work.

Was anything else affected? My rear wiper, window, and remote door locks wont work...all went down at same time.
