No Power? Stumped

1990 T4r 4x4 auto:

Over the past few weeks, on about 3 occasions, I have turned on the ignition and nothing, as if the battery had been removed. I immediately went into my panic mode where I played with the ignition, fiddled with the shifter lever on 1 occasion seemed to work, most likely by chance. Yesterday had the same experience so I removed the positive cable then reconnected and all is well. I am not sure if there's a fuse and/or circuit breaker that by disconnecting the battery it resets the starter/electrical system, I do not have a clue; oh, just replaced the battery.

Appreciate any suggestions or comments!!

Please put us at your truck.
What do you see, hear, feel smell that's different from when the truck works?
Battery connectors have shiny, bare metal tightly against shiny, bare metal?

Got a volt-meter? Next to our senses, it's the most important electrical diagnostic tool.

Take a close look at the fusible link (wire). Make sure it's in good shape and there is a solid connection on both ends.

I have an 86 automatic. I replaced the battery and changed out the terminal connections, but that wasn't the problem. I finally figured out that every once in a while I'll have to either push forward on the shifter or shift from drive to park for it to start. Need to adjust the linkage one of these days.
