So the threads are a bit old with many ideas thrown around, including one that costs a couple grand! Now that some of the 4ths are rolling out of their warranty, I think the basic troubleshooting should be revisited.
I first noticed the row of lights on the left side of the dash (the abs,vcs, etc) light up on hard breaking, and also the occasional stuck shifter while in park. Usually the lights would go off after a while and the shifter would free after I buckled my belt, always a nice reminder. Over the past 6 months, both became more frequent a thing, until last night, when I was completely frozen in park and had to use the release under the tab just above the "P" I searched this forum and decided my first step would be the brake switch (84340-69025) replacement. Calibration didn't seem to last for those with similar symptoms and the fact that the shifter released without a catch when I used the release button didn't concer me for transmission issues. I picked up the switch on my way home and crawled under the pedals the second I pulled in. Just anterior to the lever to with the brake pedal is attached, you will find a harness, the male and blue and the female end grey and cream seated in a 2 inch wide flat bar. Release the male end and twist the Cream-grey plastic body 1/4 turn while pushing ward a bit. It twists out, and the new one twists in. No tools, very simple replacement.
