Hey guys I am new here, but not new to cars at all. Have been working on them for several years.
My friend has a 1996 2.7L 4runner, last weekend i changed plugs and wires for him because it was sputtering very bad and would just cut off without much of a sign. I installed the plugs and wires and he claimed it was running much better, drove it for 4 or so days and it had not cut out on him. The other night he called me and told me he was broke down @ 10:30pm. Offered to pick him up but he had AAA tow it to his house.
I go look at it today and confused myself more than i did help myself figure it out. I looked for spark by pulling a plug wire out and putting an old plug in..no spark. But then i take a look at the relays... the EFI(fuel pump) relay is quite warm when i feel around.
i guess what i am asking is, how often do coils and fuel pump relays last in these cars?
I know in cars like my older volvos, it is not rare for a fuel pump relay to go out after ~100k miles. Any other common things it could be? The car has 100k+ on it.
