No TEs in Texas

I have been following this forum for a while and decided to join. Wanted a 2011 Trail Edition. None to be found in the Gulf States (5 states) area. Bought a Black 2011 SR5 4x4 and looking into swithching out body parts (SR5 to TE) like some members on here have done. BTW, this is my 6th 4runner in 20 years.

I thought about the paint mods (chrome blackout, etc) - just not sure if I want to go that route. Are the TE's hard to find everywhere throughout the U.S.?

Congrats on the purchase.

They seem to be pretty rare everywhere. I was looking in the northeastern and midwestern US and couldn't find a single one on autotrader. Mine was the only one I could find in eastern Canada at the time of purchase.

I do not feel like I "settled" for something I didn't want by buying a SR5 4x4. Would have been great to have the TE and avoid the $3,000 + in cosmetic mods.

I just heard on the news tonight that Toyota is telling its American dealers that shipment of cars will be greatly reduced by this summer due to the earthquake. This will probably make it even harder to find a trail. Once gas gets to $5 a gallon you may be glad you did not get a new suv after all.

Yup, will be even harder to find. Even Tacoma production has been shut down (or at least all orders have been cancelled), they can't keep up with the demand due to the very limited supply of parts.

that's kind of what i did. I wanted a trail model, but, they weren't available when i was shopping, the trail was a little more than i wanted to spend. And there are some features on my SR5 that aren't available on the trail. So, i'm happy i got the SR5.

As far as guys who have changed out their body panels etc. Check out harper7's thread. He is located in Texas i believe. He took a silver limited, and has literally tore it apart. He's got some pics too that show the back half of the 4runner torn down to the sheet metal. Pretty amazing stuff.
