No to summit racing

Ok this is from a past experience. From reading ChildrenOfBodom's recent thread about his dealings with Magnaflow it brought to mind my day with Summit Racing. Now this is when i had my 02 Tacoma, before i lifted it the first time with a Fabtech 6" i got my rims and tires from Summit which is about 35 min from where i live. I got it lifted, put the rims and tires on and about a month left, before i even went through a puddle, the rims started to peel, they were **** Cepek DC2 Black. I knew that they had a 2 year warranty on them which this was covered under, i called summit and they said they would either directly replace them or i could get something else, they said they could do this at any point in 2 years from date of purchase. Ok no problem, solution was found, so i just went ahead and just used them, bought a year and a half later, when i went to lift it more and put the 38's on it, i had to get different rims, so i called up summit and went over the situation again, and again the answer was the same. I went up the following week, and they took a look at them for half a second, when we were at the desk they admitted that they and **** cepek was aware of the bad coating peeling after weeks of use, so they were going to take my word for it.

So inside at the desk the part manager comes over and takes care of me, while i was looking in the magazine for the rims i wanted to replace them with, he was punching away at the computer, and before i knew it he said ok we are all done the rims will be here next week, i said wait i dont want those again, they are defective i want different ones, he said well these are the ones we are going to give you, and that was that.

When i got home i called summit 3 different times and talked to 3 different people, from the bottom up, and they all said the same thing i could get different rims, or anything for that matter. I called **** Cepek the next day and they said the same thing, summit should have just given me a credit for the rims, as when i give back the old rims, summit will send them to **** cepek and get credit from them, essentially get a new set of rims on my dime.

When i contacted the manager at summit and told him i do not want the rims i want different ones, he said no problem, then said that he couldnt do it because the parts manager already ordered more in, i said that that was not my fault, he didnt let me know what was going on until he was finished, i dont want the rims, they are going to just peel again, and on top of that in a month the warranty is up, right around the time they will start to do it. He said shockingly to me, oh well its already done, thats what you are going to have to deal with.

SO they took my money, gave me crappy rims, then screwed me by not handling my warranty in the right manner, and basically admitted to me that the intentionally did this to me. So me, my friends and family have spent 10's of thousands and more there and from that point on never again, that has been over a year ago.

This is just my story, and believe me as i share this more and more people are having the same results as i did, which is a shame because summit racing used to be very customer serviced oriented, but not anymore, they are just all about the dollar, so good luck to those who still shop there, be careful.

Just reading this made me angry. I agree with your reasoning and I hope this plight has since blown over, but this company shouldn't do that if they claimed that you could get different ones.

Sorry brother. Sucks about the peeling, too. At least **** Cepek acknowledged that their product was defective.

Ironic for a popular rim like that. Did you get different rims after the fact?

I would be pretty upset if that happened. Have you called Cepek and told them about what wonderful people they have representing them on their behalf? I would at the very least let them know what summit has done. make it a point to tell them that you are still unhappy with what summit has done and ask if there is anything they can do for you. Who knows? they may help you swap them for rims of your choice. At the very least they may just find a more reputable shop to represent them. Everybody knows how fast news of bad customer service can spread nowadays with the Internet. Seems like the people at Cepek are very reasonable. They acknowledge the problem and have taken steps to rectify it, I'm sure they won't be happy about how summit handled your situation. Hopefully you still have time left on your warranty.

Sorry to hear about your experience. One thing that helps is that if you do talk to someone on the phone and they agree to say the replacement of the wheels, get it in writing.

the situation never got rectified after that day, i sold my truck with the crappy peeled rims, told summit to shove it, called cepek and told them what happened, they said they were sorry for what had happened, gave me a voucher for anything from their lineup, it was for a small fraction of what i got screwed out of, however it was something. I have not gone back to summit nor will i ever go, or even look at a magazine for that matter. I figured that someones word was enough, but unfortunately it seems as though these days, a person's word doesnt seem to amount to anything at all.

I gotta say Ive always had great transactions with summit, they have good prices and are good about exchanges and etc..
I havent purchased any 4runner parts from them but got alot of hotrod stuff and misc crap.

Srry to hear you had a issue.

you know what i have stood by summit racing for as far back as i can remember, like i said me my family, friends have always gone to summit, but through the years we have all gotten screwed, this was just the one more time too many for me, i hope everyone has a good experience but for me and everyone else i know, they are done.
