No underhood insulation in 1997?

Hi all! Thank you in advance for your responses.
I have a 1997 SR5 4wd. My truck was involved in a collision a couple of weeks ago and the body shop had to replace the hood. They did not put any under hood insulation on and said that Toyota did not do it either. They say Toyota started installing the insulation in 1998. I am pretty sure i had it on before but do not have any pictures to prove it.
Those with 1996, 1997 and 1998s can you look and see if you have any hood insulation. Please name your year. It seems odd that Toyota would not do this in 1996 &1997 when this has been common practice for decades before. Thanks

I DO have it on my '99. I know you didn't ask for '99, but since '98 came up dry, I thought this was useful.

when I had my 98 SR5 V6 2WD it didn't have it. my 03 V8 does tho.

I bought my '97 new, and it did not have the hood insulation.

My 98 does NOT have insulation under the hood. It does have the 2 stickers for belt routing and such.

My '96 Surf does have the underhood insulation. I know that won't help you much, but I found it interesting as I assumed all the 3rd gens had it.

You could likely snag some from a wrecker and add it to any year 3rd gen though.

No it does not matter. The insulation is just for sound dampening & heat reflection from the hood.

Yes if you can salvage all the clips with it. However the insulation get very brittle and fibrous with age.

96, 97, 98 dont have it. Well at least the ones I have seen don't. Anyone know when it started what years on the 3rd gens?
