No USB Power

I've had my TRD Pro for a couple of months now and love. The only thing I've found that is not working is the power through the usb port. I was going to have the dealer look at it when I take it in for the 5k service, but I thought I'd check T4R and see if anybody here has had (and solved) a similar problem.

For some reason, my iPhone 6S Plus doesn't work with the USB, but my wife's 6 Plus does. Go figure. Haven't been able to figure it out yet. Definitely not something with the vehicle.

I've tried two that both work when plugged into the usb hub on my desk, but I can always try a third one.

I hate to be redundant so very often, but if you've already replaced the cable that you were using; as suggested by [MENTION=140132]coltm4[/MENTION], there are two other things that you can check yourself, you decide which one you'd like to attempt first... You can pull the headunit and check the harness connectors, making sure that they're securely latched in their ports. The other thing that can cause a power loss at the USB-2.0 input is a frozen firmware condition where the communication through that port stops due to a damaged software file! To correct this issue, try pulling your RAD 20A fuse; which is the constant power (HOT AT ALL TIMES) to the headunit.

Pull out that 20A fuse and leave it out for a minimum duration of four hours; this will give the memory circuit an ample opportunity to drain, restoring the system back to it's default factory settings, and deleting the Temporary off-line history files, much like you would do your windows cashe after a hard reboot! PS: Be sure to leave that 20A fuse out of it's slot for at least 4 hrs or this procedure will not work. Upon returning the fuse back into it's slot, you'll notice that your preset radio stations will be gone! Please be sure to let us know if this resolves the problem so this procedure can be filed here so that others may benefit!

With my USB plug, it will have power until I plug something in, and then it goes dead. To get the power back to the line, I have to shut the car off and start it back up again. Sometimes I only have to do this once but there have been times where I had to restart the car a few times in order for the USB plug to have power.

I have tested this on both my Iphone and a Android phone, as well as my Ipad and Kindle with all having the same results. I told the service guy at the dealer this a couple times and all they say is that it's my Iphone, even though I've told them several times it does this on 4 totally different devices and OS's. I have also used different USB wires, older and brand spanking new.

It's really annoying and embarrassing to have to keep shutting my car off and back on just to get the USB port to work. One of these days when I remember while I'm out somewhere, I'm just going to get a cigarette powered one and call it a day.

My USB port died. I wasn’t gonna mess with pulling fuse since it’s under warranty, they said they were gonna do software update but it’s updated already and no reason why the USB port should be dead but it is so they are ordering a new USB port to install for me next week????

What’s the fuse trick do that a dealer wouldn’t know ??

I found the USB port is only good for connecting to the radio. Does not provide enough amps to charge a iPhone plus. It will easily charge my android phone and tablet.

Mine was doing fine charging IPhone and for connecting iPod to stereo. Stoped working on a road trip that was bummer as I couldn’t use phone gps and had to use the crappy stock Nav. Just silly the dealer couldn’t figure it out and wants to install new USB port

I have this same problem with my 2013 4Runner SR5.

I have pulled the fuse overnight and still no luck.

I’m using the cigarette lighter option but would have preferred to be able to use the USB since I’m getting a trailer with a backup camera that I think will plug into the cigarette lighter.

I wonder if there is an adapter that would allow me to plug both into the cigarette lighter?

Just thinking out loud and wondering how many other options there are in the vehicle.

You get more power out of the c lighter ... IMO as someone said the only use for the USB is if you want to have a wired connection to the radio vs use bluetooth.

Same here, I don't even use the factory USB. I bought a dual port device that splits the cigarette lighter into two 12v ports and 2 USB ports.

There is also a second cig lighter port in the center console. So I actually run the same dual USB adapter there too, giving me 4 places to charge stuff.

This worked for me. I have a 2018 Trail Premium 4x4. Took the RAD fuse out for about 5 hours and now my USB works. Did not have much hope this would work, did not work for the last few months and was about to take it to the shop.

On a side note, the technology of this blog platform is total shit and it actually took a lot of effort to register and post this, but wanted to post hoping it would help others. Please reduce ads and get a real developer to dev this, this blog is awful in terms of usability.

Hey there, I'm having a similar issue in my 2015 SR5. Where did you find that RAD 20A? Not sure which fuse box or fuse to pull on my 2015 for this.
