Noise coming from engine

I have a humming/whining sound coming from the front of my 2001 engine. I also am getting a oil smell from the engine but not all the time. I looked arond the engine and could not find an oil leak. Any ideas???? Could it be my oil pump???? Thanks

I have no idea based on your description but more info is always a plus. Does it happen all the time? Only when engine is cold? During idle/acceleration? while turning or braking? Anything else you can think of might help someone figure it out for you

Sure it's not your one of your belts whining? My timing belts are in dire need of replacement and have been whining for quite sometime now... I'd look at your belts and see if any of them are worn down, cracked, frayed, etc...
