Nokian Hakkapeliita 5 ; Update

So I got these Nokian expensive monsters in October and with 2000 miles now I thought I would post my impressions.

These tires are great on ice. On the glare ice that I had a problem with Pirelli Scorpions the Nokians are 80% superior. They add a clear measure of safety in stopping on packed snow, ice and slush. They are quiet though with bare road I do get the click click of the studs. I was surprised that in fresh powder they slip more than I expected. Eat slush alive and superior in deep snow. They are easy on gas mileage. I get about the same as with the Scorpions. They add a measurable safety factor for the 4Runner in Winter. Were they worth $300.00 per tire ? Probably.

Finally I think that they look great.

You can't put a price on safety. In your neck of the woods, I think it was a smart decision.

2nd Winter now on the Hakka 5SUVs. They are steady as rocks. Cars all over the road this morning after a big snow and the Hakkas handled a 24 inch burm. When they are on ice they grab when on snow they are like big paws. Worth the uber $$.
