Non JBL Non RDS for JBL with RDS?

I have an 05 SportEdition with the base head unit and was wondering if it was possible to swap it with any year of the JBL head units that were an option? I am just wanting something stock looking but better than what I have and want it to be compatible with my stearing controls and iphone. Would this be a dumb idea?

Look into a Scion head unit, if you want to retain a factory plug and play radio.

The JBL radio will require the JBL amp to work. The JBL HU outputs a digital signal to the amp.

That would actually be perfect because my amp is a JBL, so would my idea work if I found one?

My current HU is the base HU (not JBL) My JBL amp was taken out of my previous car that was totalled. How do I tell if the amp has digital/analog inputs?

isnt it cheaper just go aftermarket on stereo? pioneer decks are my fav, but u can use alpine if ur an alpine fan, or kenwood. im thinking of swaping out my pioneer with an old school pull out for ****s and gigs.

Is it? I am BRAND NEW to this and I am a girl and dont know anything about all this stuff. So would everyone agree that it would be more expensive to turn my Non JBL 4runner into a JBL option 4runner? (Damn, I should have just asked this question first) <---------- still learning :-/

Im wondering if I should just buy a good head unit and upgrade the door speakers and leave my sub/amp out now? Im not looking for a huge "thump", just loud and clear and good.

The '03 JBL unit offered up doesn't have RDS. If you were to do it you'd want like an '06 ('05?) unit that has AUX input and MP3 CD capability too. What year 4Rnrs had analog and which digital JBL AMPS? I have an '03 - was thinking that was an analog amp - 86280-0W150 is # on it. Can I replace head unit with '06 up?

I know this post is 2 months old, but my 03 JBL HU has RDS. I would agree on wanting one that does MP3 and has an AUX though..

The 6 disc CD unit has RDS - the single CD unit does not.
