Noob Questions: 1" diff drop, 275vs285s, and Chips & Supercharger

Sry if these sound like stupid questions. I have recently hit the 150k mark on my 98' that i've had since new.

I just lifted the runner 2" in the front with new Camburg upper arms and coilovers. The rear has 1.5" Daystar coil spacers with new ProComp shocks.

Question 1: My front coilovers are adjustable to 2.5" and beyond. Lets says one day I decide to crank them up to the max suggested 2.5"s, would it be advisable to do a 1" diff drop? My guess is that it is probably advisable if I was to ever lift the rear to 2.5" lift. I know that there is a thread on this, and I will find it, but on a scale of 1-10 how difficult is this?

Question 2: I plan to either ride 275/75/r16 or 285/75/r16 on the setup that I have now. Eventually I plan on getting a shrockrock bumper w/ winch, a new rear bumper and sliders eventually if this matters even. I am looking to order the bumper first since it is a 12wk wait, then tires here in the next several months. I need to hear the PROS and CONS between the two sizes.
I keep hearing that 285s fit w/ some rubbing, and that some hammering on the pinch weld behind the tire-well lining fixes that. Which is fine with me, but is there anyone who prefers 275s?

Question 3: I installed the Gen two(black) TRD supercharger back in 99 or so. Been very happy with it, but never installed that TRD computer chip they sell for like $289. Just seemed too expensive to get 5-10hp out of it for that price. But now with the lost pwr from the lift and larger tires it doesnt sound so bad. If several of yall could convince me of the extreme benefits from a comp. chip out there that works really well w/ the supercharger set-up then I would consider it?

Diff drop is advisable, if for nothing just to save you cv boots.

To install diff drop , on the scale . 1
To crank up the fronts , 3
To install rear lift 3

With my arb bumper and 285 , I did zero pounding but I'm at full stuff pretty quickly .
Looks like your building a wheeling rig , better to stay with 285 , you'll loose mpg but gain trial performance and with a sc youll have less of a power lose then the rest of us .

I don't know jack about the sc and chips and all of that , cept that it was designed as a system and probably best used as a system.

Sounds sweet man can't wait to see it come together !!

Hey man. Sorry, I cant answer any of your questions. But I wanted to ask . . . how does your runner ride with those camburg coilovers and upper a arm? Iv been considering getting the exact same setup from wheelers.

I havent gone off-road yet. It has been too snowy around here and no time, but driving around town I notice that handling is much improved, seems and is much stiffer upfront. I just used the stock springs of 13yrs with spacers since I didnt have any rear sag. The new procomp shocks stiffened the rear up some but nothing like the front. I am realizing that eventually I will need new taller rear shocks once I go with a new rear bumper... but for $35 for the spacers vs. $180 for new coils, the spacers just made sense.

Also one thing to remember is that the new upper arms are longer horizontally and this brings the arm closer to the inside of the tires side wall. It is suggested to get some (cheap) rims with about a 1/2in. of offset if not putting those aluminum axle spacers or whatever they are called.

So far no complaints, no loss in turning radius yet either.

The Diff Drop Debate!

I did the diff drop. Do I NEED the drop? Probably not. I think it is cheap/easy insurance. It should prolong CV life.

I dropped my skidplate and did an oil change. I didn't remove my diff drop and measure but as others have said you aren't dropping the whole diff, just rotating it. The rear, driveshaft side, mount is 6" from the axle centerline. The front, where the drops go in, is 7" from the axle centerline. There for when you drop the front 1" the actual axle centerline only drops .462" (~15/32") Just under 1/2". It's hard to tell what strain it takes off the CVs when wheeling and you have full droop.

Is it worth it? That is up to you. I'm leaving mine in.

This thread also shows you how to mod your skidplate to accept the drop. Some drops come with little blocks to lower the rear of the skid.

I think Im gonna order from Toytec. $30 isnt that bad of a gimmick, and if it saves ur CVs then even better.

Anyone else have anymore input on compter chips & the supercharger?

Anyone have issues with 285s?

I have to ask, does anyone even make a 275/75/16? That would be a nice size, but I have never seen one.

Must be like one o' them magic unicorns. People say they have seen them, but I've been around a while and I think they are the stuff of myth and legend...
