Noob with '08 4R- got a few questions

Greetings! Just picked up an '08 4Runner (4.0L, 45k mi) and it's a HUGE step up from my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I owned a Jeep so I'm use to wrenching so what are some problem areas to keep an eye out for? These things have sealed trannys? Oh and I LOVE where the oil filter is!

NICE MAN! looks like mine. Yea you cant beat where the oil filter is can you? My last auto was a 2007 Honda civic si of which I might ad, I did my own oil changes on (what a pain that was).

Have you thought about doing any factory upgrades at all? I kinda like how the rear spoilers look, I may ad one to mine.

Hmmm. Good point. It has 17 inch wheels and says SR5 so I wonder...

Yeah, sealed tranny on these. It gets pretty complicated unless you want to do a simple drain-fill.

I have a V8 so the skidplates are a pain when changing oil. Other than that, they drive smoother, last longer, and make you look a lot smarter than when driving a Jeep.:guitar3:

Wonder what the benefit of a sealed tranny is?? I'm going to look into changing it asap since it was prob never done and have 45k on it.

That should be fine unless you tow a ton, Toyota claims it is a lifetime fluid unless you tow heavily at which point they recommend changes at 60,000mi.

You're okay with 45K. NO fluid is lifetime and I'm sure they don't protect well enough after 75K. Mine has 65K and I'm trying to find a dealer who has done this a few times so I can have it changed.

I change my trans and plugs every 30. Nothing to worry about really.

Regarding the oil filter, I used to have to remove the skid plate on both my '90 2nd gen and '00 3rd gen T4R's to get to the filter. This 4th gen is a breeze.
