Hello Everyone,
I'm new on here and it looks like you have a pretty good, active forum. Well, to get right down to business I have a few questions.
I recently bought a 1990 4Runner SR5 with the 3VZE. The first thing I had to do was a cylinder head gasket job and timing belt. Well, that was fun but I still have problems. It starts and runs fine, but as soon as you try to go anywhere, it is COMPLETELY powerless. It seems like a timing issue since it does not respond to throttle and only bogs out.
The cams are timed properly to the crank I'm sure, but I am going to pull the timing cover again just to be absolutely sure. Tomorrow I'm hooking up my timing light to check the base ignition timing, but I don't know what it's supposed to be. The Haynes manual says to check the VECI (emissions label under the hood) but it's not there under my hood! What's it supposed to be set at? I have heard 10 degrees BTDC. Thanks in advance for any help!
Paul
