NOOOO!! my lift plans got ruined!!

So tonight I got home started crawling around under my 4Runner just kinda checking things out since i just got it, and my eyes ran across the framerails and i ran into something i did NOT want to see!




i have Xreas!! i was hoping to have a simple lift on my hands i even already bought my FJ coils -_-....i guess some things just dont go as planned...and now that i know i have Xreas, whats the big deal about it? i wondered why it rode different than my 07 SR5 but i just associated it with the 17 vs 18" wheels, because honestly it doesnt feel much different, has anyone here noted much difference here between standard and xreas suspension? maybe i will now that i know i have it, lmao. ON A GOOD NOTE, i got my TRD intake in the mail today, put it on, sounds EPIC. pics coming sooooon. damned pollen made my clean engine yellow!

helps OEM handling/road manners. Its a good system just i think before its time. Its hated on here but i really like mine. That said im swapping it out here shortly but thats because it has 100k+ miles on it now.

XREAS isnt a total bad thing. Look on Craigslist in your area, youd be surprised how much local people have stock struts out there for sale. You can always swap stock for xreas.

The lift is no more difficult, just remove it. I just did mine last weekend,and removing the Xreas system added maybe an extra hour to the job. I am way happier with my new suspension and ride,and I'll bet you will be too.

My driver side shock was leaking like a siv, so I knew I was getting rid of the system. If you have no leaks, I believe you can still install your new springs while keeping the system intact.

I ran FJ coils with my XREAS shocks for about a year... the increased spring rate was VERY nice! I've since upgraded to the Toytec Ultimate lift to increase suspension travel. When I installed the front FJ coils on the XREAS shocks, I left all of the lines connected and just removed and replaced the coils in the wheel wells... a little awkward, but very doable.

FJ coils with the XREAS shocks was a very nice riding setup, but if you do a lot of off-roading, you quickly realize how short the XREAS shocks are... especially the rears. If you can afford it, you can get the Bilstein shocks to run with the FJ coils... a very popular setup. As mentioned, the XREAS is a great system for the street, but limits your options for off-road performance.

By the way... my XREAS was completely fine when I removed it and I don't have any regrets about removing it. I removed the system by using the appropriate connections and lost maybe 3 or 4 tiny drops of fluid. Removing the whole system only took about 30 minutes. Tip: when removing the front lines that cross over to the opposite frame rail, start on the passenger side... the passenger side line runs over the top of the driver side line.

So? Just disconnect it from the shocks and remove the lines entirely, then install whatever shocks you want. 5100's go great with FJ coils. It's not very difficult to remove.

I'm local to you, if you want a pair of non-XREAS shocks out of a 2006 with about 54k on them, you can come get them out of my garage. I swapped them for 5100's myself. Send a PM.

Just disconnect them and get new shocks. I didn't even remove the lines and cylinders they are still under there. Xreas was nice as far as stock height handling goes but I don't miss it.

mmmm i see, maybe not so bad after all. dont really feel like ripping it out as of yet because i dont see any leaks anywhere. probably going to put 5100's in with the FJ springs when i have the extra cash to spend on them.

how did you put the fj springs in whilst on the car? i would like to do that if possible for the time being before i pony up for the bilstein 5100's

Basically, the same approach as removing the front shocks, but after I removed the bottom bolt and the three top bolts, I supported the strut assembly in the wheel well. From that point, I used a pair of spring compressors to disassemble the assembly, transferred the spring compressors to the FJ coils, put the assembly back together, and reinstalled. As long as you mind the XREAS line, everything goes smoothly.
