The gate was open. I don't go up there too often in the winter but I've never seen that gate closed. I'm not exactly sure if or when they ever close the gate. I've found the forest service website to be incredibly unreliable but right now the website claims that the road is plowed all the way to Sailor Flat. The 1 mile section of the road east of Ford point would be dicey as hell if the road was at all icy. Especially when maneuvering for oncoming traffic.
