Hey Guys,

I finally did a drain and fill on my sealed tranny. I noticed that my RPM when going 70MPH+ its now sitting a little higher at 2100-2300RPM before that it was sitting at 2000RPM and lower,

anyone think this is still normal and ok?

My 05 V6 will sit around 2000-2100RPM at ~70MPH with just me in the car. If I have a full crew or some heavy cargo it will be a little higher.

So...in 5th gear at 70mph your 4Runner's V6 will always be running at the same RPM, likely ~2k RPM. No drain and fill will ever change your gear ratios. Now, if you are seeing significantly higher RPMs on the freeway than normal, that means you may be driving in 4th gear instead. Usually your truck will only downshift into 4th gear to pass or climb a hill, but it rarely remains there. Next time you notice this phenomenon, you can shift over to 4th manually and see if the RPMs change. If they do, that means you were in 5th, and if not, then you were indeed in 4th the whole time. Not sure what would cause that, but disconnecting your battery might help reset the ECU's gear selection logic

thanks will give this a try.

Did some testing for some reason driving in 4 is driving how 4d would be and vice versa , kinda weird

The shop did it. They didnt use a machine but used a pump. so once it got to the top, oil splatted out, so im assuming it may have spilled out more than it should have, going to have them check it again.

Well there is a whole procedure that needs to be followed for checking the level. The engine must be running and the trans fluid temperature has to be in a specific range. Sounds like you need to find a shop that knows what they're doing. Hopefully the pump they used wasn't a high pressure one. Did they call it a "flush" or just a fluid exchange? A pressurized flush would be a no-no.

Are you saying they filled it until oil came out of the refill hole?!
This thread was my primary resource for when I worked on mine. There are details included on how to check the fluid level. But filling until oil came out the refill hole is way over full.

I truely hope that wasn't all they did to say it was full, if they didn't check the fluid level using the proper procedure it is indeed most likely way over filled and if so over filling an automatic transmission is way worst than having it a bit low on fluid!!

That being said if it's truely way over filled that very well could be the cause of the issues you're now having and may not be reversible by draining out the excess fluid, there're components within the transmission that shouldn't be getting flooded with fluid and when over filling that's what happens, hopefully everything will be OK, I also recommend finding out exactly how they determined the fluid level without telling them how it's supposed to be done, if they didn't do it correctly TAKE IT to another shop that knows what they're doing and get it documented by them that it was over filled and by how much fluid in case the transmission has been damaged!!
