Welcome and I’ll add you, spOOner. Congrats on the new ride. I came from sports cars too so it was a transition but I honestly have more fun doing this than I ever did at the track. It’s more technical than it initially seems! I’ll add you to the main post!

I was actually shocked at the abilities of street tires unless, yeah, you find some serious muck.

I’ve never been to that park in McHenry but a few friends have been. I guess it’s super structured with people guiding your every move. You basically line up and take turns driving over or through obstacles. My friends reported back a suck level of 10 out of 10. This was early in so it may have changed but I’d rather be able to go out and explore and not have someone supervising my every move.

Count me in for something too. I’ve never done anything close to heavy duty off roading.

I got stuck in a mud a couple times at The Cliffs Insane Terrain. I quickly learned the limitations of street oriented tires.

About a decade ago we took a rental Chevy Trailblazer up and around in trails near Ouray and Silverton out in Colorado, which is really what got me longing for something I could pack the family into, head out someplace similar, only this time with something that wasn't one misplaced tire away from falling apart.

It'll be a nice change of pace, challenging and... relaxing(maybe a better term here), vs challenging and nerve racking, relatively speaking. The track really gets my Neanderthal gene rolling too...

That’s awesome. Love CO. Too bad it’s become so popular. My friends out there say it’s changing a lot with this massive influx of non-natives. I’d live out there in a heartbeat.

It was a rental Jeep on Kauai that got me into off roading. Met some hella cool local out there who took the time to give some vacationer awesome advice on off roading on super soft sand. My wife and I were just nice to their family and helped them snag a hat blowing in the wind. Super cool in return and sparked my lifelong interest in going off the beaten path. I still use the tire gauge he gave me to this day.

I keep trying to contact the Cliffs but still no answer which I assume means they’re still doing their “winter” hours of weekends only. They have no other info anywhere so I’ll try them this weekend.

Itching to get this thing dirty, ironic considering I'm a freak about detailing and cleaning my cars...

Probably going to do some Michigan trails, maybe Silver Lake in July, would love to do a little something something before then though.

I usually take several hours to clean mine back up. I’m fully crazy about detailing but lucky for us, the Runner wears dirt well and just looks right!

Let’s work to get a date in the books. I’d prefer Fridays during the day if it works with schedules. I just hate going out when it’s crowded and you’re dealing with other people.

looks like ppl are heading to River Road Rally Park in McHenry @ 930am and about 37 participants

Hey everyone,

I bought a 98 3rd gen about 2 weeks ago knowing I'd have to do some preventative maintenance.

Can any of you share a 3rd party toyota mechanic/shop you trust in the area?
I live on the border of bartlett, carol stream, and hanover park. Don't feel like getting overcharged at the dealership.
I'm anticipating having to replace my ball joints and other suspension components ASAP.
