Northern Illinois 4Runner Group

Yeah, again, some guys came through with serious rigs and just tore the crap out of some areas. The picture above is one such area. My tires were caked in mud and I slid right into the ruts. “Clunk.” The frame was stuck. My Jeep friend was like, I heard the clunk from around the corner and knew exactly what happened. Haha.

If you’re creative you can avoid the ruts but I really hope they do some maintenance so non-rednecks can get through too. Haha.

Well ended up going with a buddy of mine to Badlands and it was a blast! There was a Jeep club out there running around and not to many others. Got a little muddy but ended up staying for 9-3. I hear Chitown4x4 will be out there witha beginner group. Might see if I can make that trip.

That’s awesome! A friend of mine with a new TRD-OR and I are planning on heading down there later in April. I’ll throw the date out there when we have it locked down in case anyone else wants to go.

I’ve never been to Badlands. Is it worth the drive? Gonna be darn near 3 hours for me.

To be honest I really don't have anything to compare it to since this was my first park/offroading adventure. With that said, It was about 2 hr &40ish min for me and I think it was worth it. It sucks that its an hr ahead due to the time difference but I liked it. I would like to jump in if possible with you guys, the only problem is, I might only be open on April 6-7, 20-21. Once you drop the dates ill see if I can go. They have some Sand areas where I got stuck once ( crawl control got me out lol ) Rock area and some nice hills. There are plenty of areas given they are a 900-acre park.
You are required to have a flag and entrance was 25$ I think.
 
Thanks for the feedback! The flag and fee is pretty common for the parks I’ve been to. If you didn’t buy their flag, Farm and Fleet has a plethora of flags for cheap.

I’ll keep the crew informed on a date if anyone is down. Finally looks a little like spring outside.

Maybe meet in the am and get there once they open ( or close to that time )to maximize time. Anytime you had in mind ? I would like to start heading back sometime around 3ish but I guess the day will dictate.
I’m coming from the mall area in Schaumburg, what about yourself ?

Keep us posted. I’d be down if all works out. I’m not a 100% ATM since I’m doing a tire swap from my KO2s. Timing is everything. If not this weekend then let’s plan a day like two weeks ahead so everyone can swing it into their schedule.

Probably a good thing we’re not going this weekend. 1.5” of rain predicted and, if you’re up north like me, 5-7” of snow here. Gross.

I just looked into the Cliffs to get their summer hours but there’s no answer when I called and their website still lists that they’re only open Saturday and Sunday from 9-4.

Is a weekend better than weekdays for most people? I get days off during the week so less busy would be great but I know it doesn’t work for everyone.

Let’s get a date in the books.

Checking in from the NW Burbs here. Just picked up a 2019 TRD Pro today.

Looking forward to getting it dirty once I'm comfortable with it. Spent a few years running tracks in various cars with the MCSCC in the area, most recently a 6th Gen Camaro SS. I'm a firm believer in using a vehicle as intended, but off-roading is new to me, unless you count donuts in mudflats in a 90's Blazer...

Certainly down for some group adventures once I stop feeling like I'm driving an oil tanker.
 
Count me in for something too. I’ve never done anything close to heavy duty off roading.

I got stuck in a mud a couple times at The Cliffs Insane Terrain. I quickly learned the limitations of street oriented tires.
