Hi Hambone11B. I'm thinking of heading to Peter's Mill this Saturday the 22nd. I have a new 4runner too and I'm new to off roading so I don't want to do anything too extreme (yet); it should be a really easy trail for a stock 4runner. Are you or anybody out there interested in a low key 4runner drive?

So we've revised to September 5th in to Denver and starting in Moab on the 6th. 9th doing Black Bear Pass and some Telluride.

Hey Guys, I am new to the board. Got a 2015 Trail back in June. I took it up to Peter's Mill/Taskers for the first time last weekend. Did Taskers first, which was deserted. Drove to the end of it and the took my dogs on a hike. Turned around and went back to do Peter's Mill which had a few people on it, including a Lexus SUV. My trail had no problems, but I started at the south end. The whole time I pictured your advice saying to start at the north. I kept expecting to fall of a cliff since I was going the wrong way.

The trail was pretty easy, a good intro. My poor truck got all scrapped up on the sides though...

I only suggested starting from the north because I don't know people's experience. If someone has never been off roading, the first section going uphill(from the south), could be overwhelming. I say that only because of a few switchback turns and steep grade could cause some to make mistakes on a stock rig. Like you said though, the real issue for those experienced is the overgrowth on the trail.

In comparison how was Tasker's Gap? I have yet to go.

You guys need to do FlagPole Knob one day. A group of us just did it on the 22nd of last month. We had a blast! its a couple hours south of PMR best part is it is FREE!

But I used to ride along with my Dad out in the Mojave and was hoping for something a little bit more adventurous. Peter's Mill was fun but being a linear road there wasn’t much deviation. Are there any places in NOVA were you can got drive for hours and have to leave a bread trail so you know how to get back to civilization?

I'm unaware of trails nearby that are like that, but I'm just exploring the scene as well. I do miss the expanse of Colorado's(where I was before NOVA) trails and how diverse they were, so I feel you pain thus far!

Yeah I got a few scratches on the trail too...

...but seriously, I managed to buff out all the scratches and it looks good as new. I used a meguiar's DA power tool with my drill and meguiar's swirl x. It took about two and a half hours but I managed to remove them all. I found that if I manually applied the swirl x to the black plastic trim I could remove the little scratches found there (black mirror plastic and black plastic by windows).

I was surprised at how overgrown it was in that one section with all the crazy thorns!

The 4runner never broke a sweat on this trail though. In 4-low it was unstoppable (and much easier to modulate the throttle). I tried out the crawl control a few times just for fun, even though it wasn't really needed.

Easy section

This is illustrative of an easy section. It was actually extremely dusty, I couldn't keep the windows open.

I have rhino rack vortex bars on the top. They are actually really great with no real perceptible wind noise if you use the vortex inserts. The bars seem very sturdy. Rhino Rack says they're ok for light off road use, and since it is an Australian company, I feel pretty confident they'd be ok on a trail with a moderate load.

Virginia Winter Prep

What are the thoughts on winter prep and undercoating here in VA? Do you guys repaint the frame, use rust converter, etc. every year?
