Norwegian 35" Arctic 4-Runner

Hi there,

I'm new to this forum.
I bought my first Toyota one year and a half ago. It wasn't exactly in a good condition, so I've spent a lot of time and money in this car.
Now it starts to "gettin'" somewhere. It looks better, and handles a lot better than the "saggy" condition it first had when I bought it.
It's my daily drive, and I also use it a lot for trips in remote areas in the mountains and so on here in Norway. It's perfect for camping trips in the weekends...

"New" and original, well I lifted it already...

Modified with Bushwackers, General Grabber AT2 34"x16,
Dobbinson +55 mm. coilsprings - KYB Monomax for 3"
30 mm. spacers on all four hubs. Bi-xenon - headlights.

Now on Cooper STT 35" - Arctic Trucks 15x10 -52ET
Fjallasport Fenders 12cm wide. Same rear coilsprings. Torsions slightly lifted in the front, no other lift - just removed a hell of a lots of steel and then welded together.

Should be well prepared for the winter now...

Didn't you change the diff-transmission? I have also 35" on my Runner, but now I don't need the 5th gear anymore. That's why I will downgrade to 33".
I killed the diff with only 31" on my Hilux, so I think 35" are a way to big, without any changes in the gear-ratio.

I know the truck is looking much more "icelandy" with this tires!

Haven't done anything yet. I can still use 5th gear on the highway. (The 3.0TD 1KTZ is strong...) I haven't noticed any problems at all so far, but wear could be a problem later. I don't do rockclimbing or heavy off-road.

(I know people here that runs on 37" with original diff.ratio).
But like a local guru here told me; I's better to change the ratio in the transfer case... (he did) So I'm gonna see what I can do later. I wanted at first to change the diffs but when/if I do, Id likely to put i an aussie back as well, and some kind of an LSD in the front would be fine. I just haven't made up my mind yet what's gonna be.

Of course it's possible to ride the 35" with the original gear ratio, especially when you don't go on hard trail. But the better way is to change it.
I have the 3VZE and it has enough power, but in the 5th gear you feel that there is missing something.
