So maybe I missed it, but what made you decide to keep your truck instead of upgrading to a 5th gen?

The heartache of trying to find a Cavalry Blue TRDP was a pain in the ass and having dealerships quote me nearly 10K over sticker for one really got me frustrated on wanting to get one. We’ll see if they change the body style up next year or do any changes.

May end up keeping my 3rd gen and getting a new 4Runner in a year or two.

Helped my younger brother install some stock rear shocks on his 3rd gen and then installed my WabFab rear quick disconnects.

The wife thinking I’m weird taking pictures for what she calls “my car blog” so she decides to poke fun haha

Took a 200 mile trip to see the parents for the holiday. Well on the way up the Ultragauge picked up a CEL for P0325 (knock sensor). After some research, it’s common for the wiring harness to fail because of the constant heat and where it’s at on the motor. Got worried because I thought it had something to do with the supercharger (I really need/want the 7th injector kit and smaller pulley).

Ordered two OEM knock sensors and OEM wiring harness. Plan on tearing the supercharger off and replacing the sensors and harness this weekend.

Decided to get a head start while I wait for the sensors to come in tomorrow.

Got everything torn down. Not as big of a pain as I thought it would be.

Took the charger off. This was a breeze as I’ve already installed this once before

Next was the fuel rail, injectors, and intake manifold. Intake manifold was held on by 8 bolts and 4 nuts on each corner. The rear nuts were somewhat of a pain to get to but not bad.

And buried deep beneath are the knock sensors and harness.

Going to get the intake manifold cleaned up tomorrow at work and then go get some new intake manifold gaskets and I should be good to go.

A little bag and tag never hurt nobody

While I have the injectors out. Is there a DIY way to clean these? Or replace while I have them out?

I'm sure given enough time and resources all of us could find a DIY way to clean and test the injector afterwards. Being that Dr Injector(and others) ultra-sonically clean, replace all o-rings, test them, and then guarantee them for about 25 bucks I just send them out. lol

I went back and forth for some reason today about whether or not to DIY clean them or buy new injectors. Figured the near 200K mile OEM injectors could fail at any time, so I bought replacements. Maybe it’s my ocd/preventative maintenance, but I might as well replace them while I’m there.

I’m pretty much at a stand still until I get the injectors on Saturday.

This evening I put the new knock sensors in. It could be that I either accidentally pulled it out while trying to unplug the old one or that the pigtail came out from the plug, but this is what it looked like. I don’t remember pulling on it in the wrong spot. Could or could not be the source of my knock sensor code, but let’s just say it is haha.

After I got the knock sensors installed I cleaned the manifold and blew all the grime and dirt that had collected on the motor. Put new intake gaskets on and torqued the manifold down.

For being somewhat of a problem, I’m going to do a full write up once finished.

Injectors finally showed up today. Opted for new injectors instead of sending them out to get cleaned and tested. Price was a tad cheaper for new injectors vs sending them out to be refurbed.

Got it all buttoned up and it’s running like a top. Going to take it on it’s first road test tomorrow.

On a side note. The wife planned a trip out to Utah/Colorado. Her and I both have family members that live in Colorado.

What do you all think of this route? Anything you’d want to take away/add?

I’d really like to do some wheeling while we’re out there. That’s one of the reasons for wanting to go out there. Of course we’d like to do some camping while we’re there and may or may not decide to stay in a hotel one of two nights.

We’ll start out in Louisville and do some driving the first day. This is my wife’s list that she made so it has more touristy things. Definitely would like to see that stuff, but want to get some wheeling/scenic/camping spots in.

Been dealing with a longer fire up time after installing the new OEM brand injectors off Amazon. Cold start, car would fire great. No misfires, full power, no issues running at all. When car was up to temp, shut off, and fired back up after 10 minutes. It was take double the cranking time/sputter trying to fire up. Ended up getting my old original injectors cleaned and flow tested. Just finished installing them tonight. I’m getting good at installing injectors in no time haha.

Hopefully solved my small problem, will report back tomorrow.

All good. Nice to see some fellow VAG owners in here. I miss it sometimes. It certainly was weird going from a car that sat an inch off the ground to one that is feet off the ground haha

I always look forward to it snowing but what really ruins the fun is traction control on these things. Decided to order a TRAC switch from infamousrnr, can’t wait to do the Andy mod. On a side note it will allow me to do rear wheel drive burnouts which I’ve always wanted to do since I’ve installed the supercharger haha.

Had the wife trade cars with me for a couple days and while she was driving the Ultragauge picked up a pending code for P0442 (small Evap leak). CEL never came on or anything. Have noticed an awful change in gas mileage the past couple months which has been baffling me ever since. Was getting about 280 on a tank, now I’m down to 220 on a good day.

Got around to doing the Andy Mod 2.0. The writes ups and the time it takes to do said write ups makes me love this forum and all who contribute.

Acquired the Trac off button from a fellow member. Per the write up went and bought the correct relay, fuse tap, and wiring.

Mounted the relay the same way as what’s in the write up. Good spot and it’s out of the way. Then everything got zip tied together to clean it up.

Moved the diff button next to the Trac off button and the Toyota security in the cluster part.

Bam and it works!

Such a great mod for safety reasons in my opinion and for the obvious burnouts and snow donuts haha.

Well...hate me for it, but it’s an end of an era.

My older brother sent me the online link to my local Toyota dealers 2018 Cavalry Blue TRDP. Went there the next day to look at it because I’ve never seen one in person and it’s one I’ve always wanted.

Long story short, traded my 3rd gen in and purchased this. Coming from a dealer, I’m severely surprised they gave me such an amazing offer for my 3rd gen. The GM liked it so much he said he’s more than likely going to add it to his fleet.

Thank you to everyone and this forum. My old rig wouldn’t be half the truck it is if it wasn’t for you all. I’ll still be lurking this forum as it was hard to get rid of my 3rd gen.
