but i was reading on here the other day and got a little upset. somebody referred to there 4r as a car and the flaming for it was a little rough, i call mine my car, they definitely arnt a truck, easier to call it a car than a suv, not a truck, as i sold my 3/4 ton pickup to buy my 4r and i was a little loathe to call that a truck, sorry bout the rant, just had to add my 2c

I call mine a truck because SUV is a pain to say all of the time and it's not a car :) As far as I'm concerned it's a truck with a permanent camper shell on it.

Plus mine gets mad when I call it names.

I agree that it should be alright to call it a car, because when I hear car, I usually just think "motor vehicle."

But don't be so quick to say it's not a truck. It's a truck underneath. It's got a frame, large tires, a tow hitch, basically the exact same innards as a Tacoma aside from the rear suspension setup (4-link VS Leaf).

So it sure as hell is a truck.

k, but a tacoma is defiantly not a truck, pickup yes, oo wait not gonna argue,

was just implying my dissapointment in such a great site with so much help to offer, flaming a guy for calling it a car

I don't know how a Tacoma wouldn't be classified as a truck. All pickups are trucks except for maybe an El Camino.

Last I checked, anything with RWD or 4WD, a frame, and a bed is a pickup truck (no, Honda Ridgeline is not a truck! It's a FWD Unibody pavement pounder)

A Ford F-350 Super Duty is a pickup truck, just like a 1992 Toyota 1/2 Ton is a pickup truck. There's different sizes.

So, while a 4Runner is not a pickup truck, since it has no bed, it's just a light truck. It's like an enclosed truck. It still has a frame, it's still RWD based, it's still got a large cargo area.

SUV's are trucks, based off of truck platforms (IE: Light Truck: 4Runners, based on Tacoma, Xterras, based on Frontier, Old Exploders, based on Ranger. Truck: Sequoia, based on Tundra, Expedition, based on F150, Excursion, based on F250, Pathfinder Armada, based off of Titan, etc). They are not to be confused with Crossovers, which are based off car platforms. (IE: Mazda Tribute/Ford Escape/Mercury... Mariner or something, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Venza, Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Honda Pilot, the list goes on... these are just prime examples)

I call my 4r a truck. I call my work van a truck.

Calling it a car just doesn't seem right at all.

LOL don't you guys know that all 4runners are station wagons. That is why we don't have to have mudflaps when lifted. In fact my 84 is listed as SW on the title. Station Wagon. So I guess we can call it what we want. I just call mine a "Runner" and since we have 3 in the family my wife has named each one so I know which one she is taking at any given moment:lmao:

This is all based on personal opinion and whatever you feel like calling it. But going as far as bashing someone for calling their runner a car is as stupid as bashing someone for calling it a truck. Its not a big deal its your car call it what you want and enjoy it. :driving:

El Caminos are classified as a 'Class 2 Pickup Truck' whatever the heck that means, but it is FAR from a TRUCK... All I know is when you're a highschool kid with 450+ hp and a light rear end it can be dangerous...and FUN. Here is Nates_NW4Runners "truck" :trophy:

Does the term breaking tables ever apply to this forum?

lol yeah my Defender was listed as a Station Wagon, thats why it was called Land Rover Defender SW!

A guy at my work had a dodge caravan (AWD!) that he put a lift kit on and called a truck, people liked to remind him that he actually owned a mini-van.

He also wears a skullet with absolutely no shame, so he's a different type of guy.

agreed, it is a car, suv and a truck.

you should not get flamed for calling it a car since it is not a pickup.

I think we should all try not to get worked up over anything someone else posts. unless of course someone is literally calling you out by name with insults. this communication medium lacks tone and it is difficult to properly convey tone. So keep you feelings in check, it is the internet and if you are overly sensitive then you will just get hurt.

BUT I dont condone flaming or demeaning other people. telling them they are emphatically wrong is fine.

My 1997 Brazilian (Argentine-built) HiLux Surf is called the HiLux SW4. Guess what 'SW' stands for?

I knew a kid that would swear by anything with a body on frame and solid rear axle was a truck. Then again, if that were true you could call a good ol Crown Vic a truck haha.
