Not new here, but need some suggestions

Hi Guys, I currently drive an 06 Acura Tsx, but have loved and been longing to own a 4runner since I was 17. My tsx has 82K miles on it and is all paid off, has been for years now, I also work at a car salesman, we just took in an 08 Grey Metallic 4runner limited 4x4 without nav and 71K miles on it. I am tempted to buy it. Its listed for 22995, I would be getting it for 19200, our price that we paid for it. I would have to take out a loan to buy this sucker ofcourse, about 10K worth of loan, I am just in decisive about should I buy this truck or not? I mean, I love the truck, absolutely stunning, its just I dont know if it is worth giving up the tsx for the 4runner? any suggestions?

Well i cant say much about the value of said 4runner....but being on a 4runner forum i can say almost everyone will tell you that a 4runner is a huge step above an acura for several reasons...so for my .02 i say do it

The TSX is a great car that will go another 200k easy. My ex-wife had one. What does your commute look like?
Any other vehicles in the stable?
Plan on any serious mods that would take the 4runner off the street for awhile?

Sounds like a great deal though, especially if price listed is out the door. 3yrs newer and half the miles of mine. I paid $11.5 OTD for a Sport V8 + about $2.5k in mods/maintenance Ive been doing over the last couple weeks.

I drive 20 miles each way to work everyday so about 40 miles or so each day, 5 days a week, I dont have any other vehicles in my stable. The acura is in great shape. It gives me about 30 mpg on the thruway ( my commute is all thruway) i know that the mpg on a 4runner is not a great but i dont know what the realistic numbers are for the 4 runners mpg.

Not exactly sure what the market is like where you are, but that sounds like an ok deal if it is OTD. It sounds like y'all gave someone a smokin' deal on their trade-in, if it was a trade.

Personally, it would be hard for me to justify it if I were in your circumstances, unless you needed the capability of the 4runner for snow/hobbies/etc.

That being said, if you can get a good price for your vehicle, and swing a car payment and a little more gas in your budget, you could have the vehicle it sounds like you have wanted for a while.

Another Buffalonian! Alright! 19.2k is a real good price IMO. I got my 08 4x4 with 85k for 18k. If you need it, I'd say go for it depending on the condition. How is the body/frame rust wise? I will guarantee you have bubbling on the rear hatch underneath that window seal. Don't let it deter you though, the rear hatch can obviously be replaced (which mine definitely will be some day soon). Let us know what you decide!

Also MPG wise, where abouts do you live in Buffalo? I'm up in Tonawanda and with a 70/30 mix city/highway, I've averaged between 17-20 mpg. I haven't gotten anything lower (stock vehicle, running cooper discovery at3's)

Like everyone else here will surely tell you, that 4Runner is definitely a step up, and you'll be super happy with it. But unless you're in need of those SUV capabilities, it would be difficult to justify the additional gas (plan on a realistic ~17/20mpg in stock form, ~13/18 lifted) and the car payment -- especially with that commute. Would it maybe be smarter (financially) to keep the Acura a little while longer?

Given your 40-mile commute...

40-mile drive x 5 days/week = 10,400 miles driven per year
10,400mi x 30mpg = 346 gallons burned
10,400mi x 20mpg = 520 gallons burned
Additional fuel burned per year = ~174 gallons
174 gallons @ average $4.00/gal = almost $700 per year extra fuel costs for work commute alone


Buuuuuut if money isn't really a concern, GO FOR IT! I guarantee you won't be disappointed. :evil:

Yes Another Buffalonian, This 4runner is completely solid, no rust underneath or on the hatch, its with West Herr and i work for em, And I get a full extended warranty, which covers every single part on the runner for another 72 months, 72000 miles from the day that I purchase it, its included in the 19200 price plus the tax on it. I plan on selling the TSX on CL if I do pull the trigger, Kbb on my TSX is 13500, I purchased it 4 years ago for 15200, again, employee pricing at West Herr. So i figured that even If I get 12000 for the TSX, I can finance the 10K with Tax. And I checked it Geico, My insurance with full comp and collision, glass and road side assistance drops by $10/ month so instead of paying $365 for 6 months I will be paying only $300 and it will give me full coverage, every minute I am leaning towards the 4runner. The only drawback is that the 4runner doesnt have factory nav, which is ok by me, but I need Bluetooth as I talk a lot to clients when driving and dont want to get a cell phone ticket, is there anyway to get factory bluetooth with steering wheel controls on the 4runner? The navigation I can live without. My tsx does have factory nav as well. I just got transferred to Orchard Park and I drive from East Amherst and the south towns as you know get a heap of snow!

Also Cornelius, You are right about the fuel costs, but I use Premium in the TSX which is 30 cents more per gallon so 174 x 0.30 = still a 52 dollar savings! I think I am just talking myself into buying the runner and justifying it to myself! Well, first thing tomorrow, the 4runner get a deposit so no one can touch it!

Also I plan on keeping the vehicle stock atleast for right now, or else the wifey will kill me! hahaha. The hardest part will be convincing her!

Personally, if it was me and you're only financing 10k + tax, I would be all over that, especially if that includes that 6/72,000 coverage.

Are you at the West Herr Toyota dealer in OP? That's where I bought mine from.

I’ve got to chime in because I have a friend with a TSX (I think it's an '06 as well) who has been talking about buying a 4Runner for a while. I let him drive my ’03 last week (no one drives my car, but he’s one of the few people I know that I actually trust) and he fell in love. He wants one for several reasons, but driving in the snow is one of the top reasons. Considering that you've wanted one for a while, where you live, and the opportunity, I think it’s a no-brainer. Wrap it up before someone buys it.

Owning both an Acura and a 4Runner (my second) I would definitely say do it. I bought my first 4Runner to become my DD so that I could stop driving my Acura daily and I haven't looked back. 4Runners are great trucks and take a lot of abuse.

right on. i suspect you hate car payments as much as i do. I sure wish i could ugrade to a newer nicer 4runner, but adding a car payment to the budget just is not doable. i guess ill save until i have enough to buy another good reliable used one when the opportunity presents itself.
