Not really impressed with my supercharger

Now i have seen a million threads about yotas lacking power (not so much 3.4s but still). I have a 2000 4runner 3.4 TRD Supercharger. I am just wondering if there is anything that could prove weather or not im getting all of my power. i mean everyone that drives my car cant believe its supercharged. Ive never hit over 95 in my runner. ive driven supercharged cars and find that mine is really subtle. Can anyone give me suggestions? Thanks and i know its a noob question but engines arent my strong side.

What pulley are you running, meaning how much boost are you running? Did you do fuel mods when you did the s/c, such as the 7th injector.

How many miles on the S/C? Do you know your AFR? and how much boost you're getting? Make sure you're running cooler plugs, thermostat, and premium gas if you dont have any fuel upgrades.

Put it on a dyno and see how much HP/TQ it's putting out to the rear wheels. That's really the only way you'll know for sure.

Your also lifted with 33's. Have you regeared or just the s/c to compensate for the lift and tires? That coukd help too. These things arent rockets. Its a big suv with a pretty small motor.

like i said i know its jus a runner not a race car but i mean my friends 97 runner with no supercharger has more get up. no fuel mods, thats one thing im saving up for, URD when i have the money. and i couldnt tell you what pulley/boost i got ill have to check when i get a chance

I have 1999 4runner with a 3inch lift and 33s and trd supercharged and i have the same problem. I have the upgraded injection and running 6 PSI for boost, but my buddy with a 1990 pickup is faster than me. I would do your fuel injection system and put pullys URD pullys for 12 pounds of boost. Thats my plan.

I was at a site today looking at 4 runner specs for 96-02 and noticed the dealer installed super charger specs. It said it ads 70 BHP and 50 lbs of torque. Get on a dyno and at least see if your around 253 HP , you should be in that neighborhood anyways.

What kind of fuel upgrade do you have? TRD or URD? Because if you have the URD, in order for your truck to run like a champ, you have to tune it. It is very important to road tune your truck to get the most out of the blower and the fuel upgrade kit. If you are going with 2.1" pulley from URD, make sure you have a tranny cooler and maybe meth/water injection, but 2.2" pulley (adds 1.5 psi) should be enough. And you dont want to go over 12lb of boost without doing any tranny or engine upgrade.

I agree, its not blazing fast but it did take it from really slow to acceptable. Kind of like a factory V8 exploder or something similar. Im in the middle of considering on weather or not to put a lift and larger wheels and tires on it, after reading your complaints i might not do it? But im kind of board with it, ive had it for 5 years or so.

Im also thinking about addind the 7th injector kit. To the people that added it well after the supercharger, what did you think, did you notice a diff?

Its a 97 I added the blower at about 5 yrs ago at 119k and have like 165k on it now with no problems. Also added a trd cat back and k&n filter.

When friends ask me what it cost i explain that the first batch of the gen 2 trd 3.4 superchargers went out they recalled them because of the snout bearings. trd remanned them then resold them. So I got from a toyota dealer in cali for just under $1100 shipped, well worth it. But I dont think its worth the much higher prices ive seen them for.

With the URD 7th Injector kit, 2.2 or 2.1 pulley, and a good tune. You're looking at around 235+whp 240+wtq. You're truck should have no problem going 0-60 in less than 7 sec.

I have the trd fuel upgrade, but I still want to get it on dyno and tune it. should i put a tranny cooler in first tho because my tranny slips and want down shift for me already?

You should get a valve body upgrade to give you firmer shifts. Here is the website http://www.importperformancetrans.com/ Definitely get a tranny cooler, Hayden or Tru Cool are pretty much the same as the TRD cooler except is alot cheaper. I'm not sure if you can tune ur truck with just the TRD 7th. I think you need to get the URD kit that goes along with your 7th.

I know this is old thread but.

You are driving a 4runner. What do you really expect? I've gotten mine pretty close to 95 without a supercharger.

I have owned 3 4runners over the years. and never had a problem going over 95Mph in any of them. all 3rd gen. Right now I own a 99 limited. This is my first time I have wanted to upgrade one. The others were daily drivers with some of the best 4x4 abilities, for this reason, I will always buy one if I come across a great condition 4runner at a great price. by this coming spring I will lift it 4" rear 3.5 Front since I have factory E-locker in the rear I'm going with ARB air locker in front, upper control arms, diff drop, 2" body and a few more drive train suspension mods, Then Turbo or TRD S-charger. This is why I'm here in this thread. I want to purchase everything over this winter and be ready for the spring. The reason I'm posting is, I just past a herd of elderly ladies on a two lane road just today. and hit about 102-105. I don't normally drive like that but, I wanted to hear my new exhaust I just installed as well as get around that stampede of lovely elderly lady's. So I throttled it up more than needed. I have never done it but I don't see why it would not hit 120Mph as she still has more to give for sure I never red line in drive or overdrive, every now & then I might bump red line in a quick shifting from 1st and 2nd. Anyway, WHAT 4runner don't go 95Mph, what the hell? am I just somehow buying the ones with the rare gear ratio's, If I go by the drive train code on the door sticker on my 99 Limited A04A then I have 3.556 gears and I know most in the US are 4.10. That would make her a little slowing of the line but it would explain the top end I'm getting. Anyway, what do you think?

I remember I had the TRD supercharger on my 2007 Tacoma and it was a waste of money. Yea it gave the truck a little more power but nothing significant.

I disagree. You haven't driven mine!

Just realize that a stock 4x4 weights 4,400 pounds. Add oversized tires, a bumper, gear, etc and a driver and you're pushing 5,000 pounds.

I think I had my 1988 22R-E up to 95mph one time in 1990. :bluejump::banana:
